My son, whom I helped get started with Logos 4, is now contemplating the upgrade to work better with his Mac. Is Logos 5 a big improvement for Mac users or about the same as Logos 4?
I just upgraded last week from L4 Mac to L5 and IT IS considerably better.
I concur, Logos 5 mac is a wonderful improvement, it is not perfect but far more stable than 4...

It is a massive improvement over Logos 4 as far as performance. Of course if you wait another couple of weeks or so I think there will be a free engine available that you will be able to download.
I asked a similar question before upgrading. Most were positive, and one or so negative. Based on their recommendation, I upgraded. Personally, I find some of L.5 better and at other times I find it less stable. Since everything above my post appears to be positive, first the negative.
Tech support is still working on solution to the Bible Sense Lexicon crashing, et. al. I also still receive several spinning beach balls when doing certain searches, etc. You may or may not have similar problems - even if your Mac exceeds the recommended running requirements. (Mine exceeds the recommended requirements). I had to delete all my L.4 workspaces (you may not have too). One feature I will not use in L.5 is their community based approach to Bible study features. While some enjoy this feature, presently it is crashing my system and I personally have no real use for it ...
Positive:
It indexes faster. I enjoy some of the other features that come with L.5 - timeline, clause search, and probably will enjoy Bible Sense Lexicon once Logos repairs it. The packages have new books, but the packages are named like the old ones. While this confused many when L.5 originally came out, the new packages are appealing - very nice IMO. I have Portfolio. I find the new interface more intuitive and elegant. Overall I think you will be happy with an upgrade, but desired you to know as much as possible what you are getting into.
Can't say I've noticed any speed improvement. My mac is older though, 2009 MBP.
The performance is significantly better for me. Very, very noticable.
I get more crashes, but it seems to save stuff well enough that I don't loose too much work.
I have a 2009 MBP and it is noticeably faster and more responsive. The UI is more refined and in general the experience is much, much better. Still crash it though. I have seen it crash 12+ times since upgrading, so sadly while I am pleased with the progress developmentally, I would not say that it is trouble free computing and still has some way to go to be an application that is on par quality wise with other OSX apps. I think one of the big issues they are working on is an error of 'too many files' opened and I have a belief that it is temperamental when it comes to poor internet connections, so the developers are aware of some of the issues.
Bottom-line, if you are already invested into the Logos platform, I would highly recommend L5 for Mac as it is an improvement over L4.
