iPad fails to launch
When I tap on Logos icon there is a brief flicker as the app fails to launch and then back to status quo. App completely fails to launch. Every other app works normally.
iPad 1
iOS 5.1.1
64 GB (45.73GB Free)
This happens time after time. I have tried deleting, re-installing app. It runs a few times, then crash and burn without leaving the runway. Not pretty.
FYI app worked fine until Logos app was upgraded to work with iOS 6 (which of course the iPad 1 can't run.)
Also app works fine on my iPod, its just too small print or too little info on screen for leading a congregational Bible study.
This behaviour in getting tiresome. Should I just give up on Logos app and revert to my old Laridian app which I have had for years, first on Palm and is available to me on iPad/iPod?
Log attached.
Every blessing,
Alan

Alan - Have you tried killing all of your apps via the multitask bar? Also, how much free space do you have on your device?

Since my original post, I have shut down the iPad, waited a bit, booted it up again and tried to launch the Logos app. Nothing happens! But this time when I looked in the CrashReports folder for my iPad there was nothing there. So, I'm guessing that the app never even begins to register an error/crash. It just won't launch! [8o|]

Apps on iOS devices don't really close down by default… they go into hibernation. Most of the time this is good (it makes app load more quickly and opens back to the spot you left off), but sometimes it slows things down. Logos is a bit more intensive than other apps, especially on the original iPad.
The multitask bar is one way that Apple lets you move between apps. Double click on the center (physical) button to open it. To close apps down, press and hold on one of the icons. After a second or so, they will begin to wiggle and you should see a minus symbol in the upper left corner of the icons. Clicking on the minus symbol will close the app out. Do this for ALL your apps and then restart your device (press and hold both physical buttons for several seconds).

Alan, double click the home button and the multi task bar appears at the bottom of the screen. Press and hold any icon in the multi task bar, and a little red circle appears on every icon. Press that red circle and it closes down the app. Perhaps try closing down all apps, fully turning off the iPad and then rebooting the iPad and starting Logos. It's worth a shot!

Another thing to try: in your iOS settings, you should be able to find a Logos App icon. Under this panel, you can choose to open to the home screen. I don't think this is your issue, but it would be worth a try.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've tried them all.
Result: App still will not launch. [:'(]
Irony is that it worked beautifully until Logos upgraded it to run better on iOS6. Perhaps they should have had something in their installer which stopped it installing on older iOS versions, though according to the app page it should run on my old iPad with iOS 5.1.1. [:(]
Perhaps someone in Logos will be able to offer some help. Usual inducements/bribes/rewards offered: [pi] [B] [C] [^]

I know that they test with other versions… I'm not sure what the glitch is here. Hopefully Tommy will be able to shed some more light. [:S]

Hi Alan, could you please uninstall and reinstall the application and let us know if the app starts properly?

It is my understanding that Alan tried that in the first post… Is there a reason to try again?

Alan, there is nothing in our code that should have changed whether or not Logos apps work properly on iOS 5.1.1. Adding iOS 6 compatibility doesn't break iOS 5.1.1 apps. I can't reproduce the issue on an iPad1 using iOS 5.1.1 (which is my main test platform), and all of the apps I've tried from the app store install and run without crashing. I'm not sure what is going on but the fact that there are no Logos crash logs just adds to the mystery.
Do you have an iTunes backup of your iPad?

There are two supported ways from Apple to back up your iOS device… 1) through iTunes and 2) through iCloud. Do you connect your iPad to your computer with iTunes regularly? When you connect it, there are various tabs… somewhere is an option to create a backup. Personally, I use iCloud and it has been a long time since I have hooked up my iOS devices to iTunes for backup purposes.

I can't use iCloud, as I run Snow Leopard, which doesn't support it, so I have to use the hook-up.
Have done that and, checking the apps tab, noticed that Logos was there. So I uninstalled it (yet again!!) and re-installed it. It has opened and is currently downloading resources (yawn [|-)]). I'll keep you posted on how it does.
Thanks for all your help.

Alan - I am unsure of Tommy's line of thinking… he may have wanted you to do a fresh install of your entire device. I have had to do that before due to a different (non Logos) app issue… Let us know what happens with your reinstall and if it doesn't work, maybe Tommy can clarify what he was wanting from you.

FYI - iCloud can be computer independent… In other words, you CAN back up your iOS 5 device to iCloud WITHOUT having a 10.7.2 "Lion" computer. There are more reasons to use iCloud, however, when you do.

I've now launched successfully for a second time, some 3 hours later.
It's bedtime now. I'll see how it works tomorrow.

BTW intrigued about what you say concerning iCloud. What advantage does it have over Dropbox, which I have been using for file swapping between my computers and devices for some years?

Dropbox will back up only those files you've imported into your Dropbox account. iCloud will back up your entire iPad such that were you to lose your iPad, replace it with a new one and then restore your iCloud back up to the new iPad, you'd hardly notice your using a different iPad! If you restored only your Dropbox files to a brand new iPad, you'd have the hand full of files you stored online and not much else.

I shudder to think how long it would take to upload my whole iPad contents on to iCloud with the snail-paced ADSL upload speeds that we enjoy in rural Scotland. At least syncing with my iMac doesn't take too long and I could always restore my stuff from my iMac.

BTW I don't have many media files or apps on my iPad. I use it almost exclusively for work-related purposes and so text documents and MindNode maps are all I swap.

Have now launched successfully a couple more times. I hope that this problem has now resolved itself. Thanks for all your help.
FYI There seemed to be an issue downloading Lexham English Bible (not for the first time). So, I cancelled the download. Is this a co-incidence?

I know that there has been this issue previously, but I have not experienced it for a while. It is possible that the beta version I have been on (since before Christmas) fixed the issue… but I am unsure about that.
