Highlight Note Syncing
I've had a problem since the last upgrade to the ios version and the desktop.
I've had some other computer issues so haven't had the time to address this one until now.
I do a large amount of reading on my iPad and marking up the text. However, nothing I have marked up in the last month or so has shown up on my L5 on the laptop.
I have followed the shutdown procedures on the iPad to force syncing
several times over the last month, but this doesn't seem to solve the
problem.
I saw today that in the Settings on the IOS program that it had a Palette specific Note Document that it might have been putting the highlights in, but when I looked at the highlights it appeared to be putting them in another note document. When I looked at that note document on my laptop in L5, nothing I had highlighted recently was in that folder.
Further, the "Palette Specific Note Document" does not show up in my Note Documents on the laptop.
Any suggestions.

In addition, highlighting i do in L5 do not sync over to the iPad either.
All of this worked fine until the latest changes in the ios program and the upgrade to L5

For clarification: the "palette specific" setting will put the notes into the note file named after the palette the highlighter used is in... There isn't a folder "palette specific note folder. "
Can you verify what note files you have on mobile and on L5? Also, how large are those files?

Sorry for the delay, I have been traveling.
Yes, I can verify what note files are on my mobile and on L5. I have quite a few note files since I have been a Logos user for 14 years. Some of these files are quite large.
I have a highlighter file, a personal markup file, and a couple of other customized highlighter files with different sets of markups for different purposes.
How many and how large the files are should not be relevant. If it is, then it's a programming problem I would think. As users create more and more note files and more sophisticated custom highlight collections with some duplicate highlights in each, this should be expected and accounted for.
So why and how does this affect why, until L5 came out, all of my highlights from my iPad perfectly synced to my laptop, but after L5 no highights sync?
Logos was working perfectly on the iPad and laptop, doing exactly what it should, now it is a major pain and the use of the iPad for reading has been rendered useless.

A bug has been discovered since you first posted... Which is likely your issue. As for large note files... They can and do ultimately cause problems on mobile. I have gone to resource specific note files.

So what is the bug fix?
Well the only note files I ever work with on the iPad are the highlights? I do a lot of reading of commentaries, journal articles, etc on my iPad in preparation for study and highlight my reading. I haven't used it for note taking except a few times. So I don't know if there is a problem syncing notes, per se. I just know that whatever I highlight on the iPad does not ever show up on L5 on my laptop.

It is included in the next release - currently in beta - and I am afraid there is nothing we can do while we wait for it to be released.

Highlights are a special type of notes and stored in notesfiles - so issues related to syncing of notes files will affect highlights.

Hi, Graham
I posted a similar question for my Nexus 7 under the "Android" forum, as my highlights aren't syncing either. I can live until a future release if it's only a bug fix. Am I safe to think that my highlighted texts on the Nexus will some day sync to my laptop? Or will they be lost forever? Should I stop highlighting on my tablette?

It will be released when 3.2.0 goes live in the app store. Sorry, but I don't have any idea when that might be. I would guess 2 weeks at the earliest.

Since Logos 4.5, highlights ARE notes, just with a visual highlighting filter applied. If you haven't done any changes to any of the defaults, then all of your highlighting from before that time and since will have gone into pallet specific note files. You might have note files named "highlighter pens," "solid," and "inductive" (if you have used highlighters from those pallets). Likewise, if you have created any pallets of your own, you will have note files named after those. These things are all true if you have not changed the default settings. Any highlights you make with a highlighter from the "inductive" pallet will be in the note folder named "inductive" (hence "pallet specific"). In L4 and/or L5, you will need to turn each of these note files on in each resource if you want to see the highlights.
I have chosen to work with my highlighting notes differently. I have changed the behavior so that the highlight notes don't go into "pallet specific" note files, but "resource specific" ones. This change requires working a little differently and making changes to the settings on both desktop and mobile apps.
I assume that you have checked to see if the note files are indeed on both your mobile device AND L5. Have you made sure the note files are turned on in the visual filter menu for each resource? It sounds like you know what you are doing, but I just wanted to double check.
If the issue is indeed related to the bug, it should be fixed when the next version is released. If you are more anxious, you can delete the app and reinstall it… you will lose any notes which have not synced and have to redownload your resources, and if the issue IS related to the bug, nothing will be fixed… but on the other hand, a reinstall has helped others who had issues unrelated to this bug.

The fix we are discussing here (3.2.0) is for the iOS apps only.
There are also issues affecting notes sync on Android - you will see some threads discussing them in that forum - and I hope that someone from Logos looks at your post there and comments on what is being done for Android in this regard.

Can you send me your log files? Go to your Accounts menu, tap on Help, and then Send Support Info. We'll see if we can figure out what's up with your highlights. (you can send them to me: jvannoord at logos dot com).

My highlights are also not syncing from iPad to desktop, but they are from desktop to iPad. Which is really frustrating because then any highlights I make on my iPad disappear! I can have the highlighting note file open and see them on the iPad, but I cannot get them to sync to the desktop. I've lost a ton of highlighting in this way (hours worth of reading) before I realized what was happening. Should I just be waiting and not doing any reading in Logos for the next two weeks? (I think that's when someone said the update would be coming out). That seems a little bit... impossible. Any help would be appreciated.

I was probably the "someone." I don't work for Logos, but I do beta test the mobile app. I can tell you that the app has now been submitted to Apple… there is no telling how long it will take to be approved… It is possible that it will end up being released this week if Apple gives it the green light.

When do they "disappear"? Do you know what triggers it? I am generally cautious about saying "you have the same issue" just because of similar symptoms. Do you use any of the other Logos apps (i.e. Vyrso, Faithlife, Verbum)? If so, can you see the note files in those apps? Also, what versions of apps are you using? What platforms?

If you could please
1) run the app
2) make a highlight
3) send me the log filesAnd i'll see if you are having the same issue as Mr. Dean reported.

James, thanks for your help.
Some notes seem to have transferred, but not all. This morning I read about 10 pages in a commentary and highlighted a number of passages. I then turned off my iPad. I opened L5 on my laptop and opened the commentary but none of the notes from this morning or previous highlights show up in the commentary.
I'm at the point of giving up completely on Logos and other programs. I spend 5 hours trying to get programs to work like they profess for every 5 minutes of beneficial work I get. Gee, working with print books was actually more time efficient in the end wasn't it?

Apparently, something about this took time. Last night I was working with this and had both the iPad and laptop open working on the same book, looking at the iPad highlights as I worked through the same commentary on the laptop which did not show the markups. Suddenly there they were.
Thanks again for the help. Now that this is working, Logos isn't so much of a pain.[:)] today.
