Passage Guide Default Bible?
I have Logos 5 on my Mac (OS X Mountain Lion) and also the iOS app (3.1.4(3.1.4.1890)) on my iPhone 5. My preferred Bible on Logos 5 for Mac is KJV, and this setting is also reflected in the Settings section of the iOS app. When I enter a passage into the Passage Guide on the iOS app, the verses contained in the content returned are in KJV (for example, under Cross References) . However, if I click any verse, I am taken to the ESV.
I have tried every setting I can think of in an attempt to troubleshoot this issue. Nothing I do seems to have any effect and Logos always goes to ESV.
So my question: how do I get Logos on iOS to use my preferred Bible in the Passage Guide?
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Hi Joshua - and welcome to the forums.
Sounds very strange!
I have just tried this and can't reproduce it (my default is NRSV and that is where clicking on verses takes me).
One question - do you have either the KJV or ESV downloaded to your iPad?

The KJV is downloaded, but the ESV is not.

Graham, are you on iPad or iPhone? Note that I am on iPhone. Not sure if this makes a difference.

I am using an iPad (sorry, I should have clarified that)
You are right that this may affect something - hopefully someone with an iPhone will be able to comment.

Graham,
Thanks for your help. Turns out, I have an iPad also. Don't normally use Logos on it, but given your post I thought I would try it out. Same problem. To my knowledge, KJV is the only downloaded resource. ESV is not downloaded. The settings reflect KJV as the preferred Bible. (I am of course signed in to my Logos account, so this would be expected.) Yet any verse I click on from the Passage Guide opens in ESV.
For the record, I decided to try and reproduce your results myself. I went to settings (iOS on the iPad) and set my preferred Bible NRSV. I was prompted to download the Bible, which I did. I then went to Logos on my Mac, which was already open, and noted that the change was reflected there as well. It synced in a matter of seconds. Next I went back to the iOS app on iPad, home page, and clicked the Read button. ESV opened. OK, that seems strange since my preferred Bible is now NRSV, but whatever. I went to the Library, did a search for NRSV and opened it. From there I launched the Passage Guide (happened to be for Genesis 10:5) and noted that the Cross References appeared to be in NRSV. Great. Next I clicked on one of those reference links (Gen. 11:8) and ESV opened.
I am at a loss here. Any thoughts?

Sorry, I have no idea why this is happening.
Hopefully someone else will come along with some good ideas[:)]

Not all versions of the KJV have an RI.
Joshua - which version is your preferred bible?

Not sure what an RI is. My preferred version is the KJV 1900. However, as noted in previous posts, this does not seem to affect the issue. I have tried setting my preferred Bible to NRSV and also NKJV. In fact, I have not yet found a single Bible version which will work in conjunction with the Passage Guide links. The ESV seems to override them all.

An RI is a reverse interlinear. Without an RI, you cannot do word studies… the software has to know what original language word is "underneath" the english one… hence an RI. The NRSV & NKJV should both have them (if you have purchased a base package).

I can confirm this issue… I am on a beta version, so I will report it there.

I would be surprised to find that the RI is the problem here. I have used such functionality on Mac version of Logos for some time. If I understand correctly, then the KJV1900 most definitely has an RI.
In any case, it's good to know that you were able to reproduce the issue. Thank you for reporting it. Also, for the record, I own the Logos 4 Platinum base package and have recently upgraded to Logos 5 Starter.

The KJV1900 does have an RI. I was confused at first about the issue you were having. [:$]

I am having the same problem with my iPad 1 and iPhone 4s. It is particularly annoying given the fact that I am a missionary in a Spanish speaking country. It seems to me that Logos will have to fix with an update because I find no setting that can make a difference.

I reported the issue to the developers, but it was over the weekend. There is an updating coming which is imminent… but this issue isn't fixed (it wasn't known at the time).

Wonderful, thanks! For future reference, how does one report these types of things to the developers?

You can post bug reports right here in the forums. I have some limited contact with the developers since I am involved in the private beta. Since this issue is present in the current beta, I made sure to let them know.

Hi Alabama
As above I can't reproduce this problem.
Any insights as to why some people can see it and others can't?
Thanks, Graham

Just to double check… this is what I was doing:
- Enter a passage and run the passage guide.
- The "cross references" section respects the preferred bible preference. (My current "preferred bible" is the ISV, and this is indeed the text showing under "cross references."
- When you click on one the cross references, however, it takes you to the ESV instead of your "preferred bible."

Nope. [:S]
What is your preferred bible? What version of Logos are you running on your desktop (I'm fairly sure its unrelated)?

Thanks Alabama,
i am doing exactly the same as you but get different results!
my default Bible is set to NRSV. This is the text which shows in the PG cross reference section and the version which is used if I click on one.
and I am running 5.0b beta 3 on my desktop.

Thanks, everyone, for the report and the feedback. I've discovered the problem, and it'll be fixed the 3.2.1 release.

Thanks very much, James! Any idea on a timeframe for that release?

It's already in the RC1 (release candidate) stage. Once it has been submitted, it can take a week or two to be approved.

OK I've downloaded the latest iOS update for Logos (3.2.1 on iPhone 5) and the problem definitely seems to be fixed! I had actually removed the app completely, and when I reinstalled and launched it, it immediately picked up my preferred Bible preference. Then, when I tested the Passage Guide, all worked as expected there too. The initial results of the guide opened in KJV as before, but now all verse links open in KJV too instead of reverting to ESV. Thank you Logos devs and everyone who contributed to this issue. Blessings!
