iPad Download

Hi.

I have just been given a new iPad and I am still exploring so forgive me if this is an obvious question.

In L5Mac I used the library to locate some resources, and ticked the download box in the info panel for each of them ... they immediately started downloading onto my iPad ... Smile

At what I presume to be the end of the download, my iPad displayed the following message:

Resource Download

Unable to download the following:

The ESV Study Bible

Zondervan Atlas of the bible

OK

My question is this ... why did they not download?

  • The message does not say.Huh?
  • If they cannot download (license issue, or nature of the graphics etc.) then I would not have expected them to have the download tickbox in the Library info panel

Is there a server issue?

How can I attempt to force a re-download?

Thanks.

    Hi Martin

Congratulations - and no worries about the question

My question is this ... why did they not download?

Sorry, as you point out it is difficult to say!

If they cannot download (license issue, or nature of the graphics etc.) then I would not have expected them to have the download tickbox in the Library info panel

I don't have the Zondervan resource but I do have the ESV SB and successully downloaded.

    Is there a server issue?

There may well be. Someone else has reported issues with connecting - http://community.logos.com/forums/t/64879.aspx - and I have just removed the ESV SB and tried to download it for a test and it doesn't seem to be working

When any server issues are resolved....

In the library entry for the resource on your iPad click on the small "i" symbol to the far right. This will popup a window - it will either show "Remove" or "Download". As the download failed I assume the button will show "Download". Press this and see what happens.

    Hope this helps

    Graham

The ESV study bible is a VERY large resource. In the past, I have had difficulties downloading it. Sometimes I have to "baby" the download by keeping the iPad awake and Logos open. This might be your issue as well.

Try to redownload it manually... Open the resource, click on the info icon and press download.

    Thanks Graham.

I am trying Alabama's babying technique. I am seeing errors similar to the one in my OP. Restarting the app causes a spinning 'thingy' at the top left of the screen which I take to men that something is being downloaded.

I am trying to find some documentation for the iPad ... is there any? ... the wiki seems to be desktop based (as far as I can see) ... the youtube videos do not show much more than quick marketing ... for example ...

    • in my library (detail view) I think I have reasoned that a shaded 'i' icon means downloaded (or downloading) ...
    • I think that the big circles with 1 hour, 5 hour etc. and the blue lines reflect the reading time and what parts of the resource have been reading.

What I cannot see is any indication of download progress (which resources are complete, which are x% downloaded etc.)

I can see at the top of the screen a cog (settings?) but that seems to have the same effect as clicking on my name (account) but it is separated by a line so I presume it to have a different function.

I cannot see the setting to eradicate the 'news' section etc. (that looks like Logos adverts.) I would like more search results instead, or tools there instead of hidden in the panel with 6 other sections etc. It just seems poor design ... or more likely a novice in control!

Lots of small questions ... I am not really looking for answers here ... rather than looking for documentation ...

    Thanks.

I can download it as well… as long as the kids aren't watching netflix videos (taking up internet bandwidth).

True. This happens every time the app is cold started. It is syncing notes, reading plans, resource locations, etc. with the server. You will also see this when resources are being downloaded.

True. When a resource is downloading, you will see the circle being drawn in blue (to show progress). When it is finished, the circle will darken.

I think that the big circles with 1 hour, 5 hour etc. and the blue lines reflect the reading time and what parts of the resource have been reading.

The time is when the resource was last read/used. The lines around the circle represent passages read.

I can see at the top of the screen a cog (settings?) but that seems to have the same effect as clicking on my name (account) but it is separated by a line so I presume it to have a different function.

No separate function. The "button" hotspot just spreads across from the "cog" to your username.

There isn't a way to get rid of the "news" section. It is advertisement. Logos wants it that way.

Every now and then I am surprised with links to videos that I never seem to be able to find again. I would be more than willing to work on the wiki… but it is a pain in the rear for me to work with. I tried to learn on a couple of occasions, but got so frustrated I quit. On numerous occasions I have spent long amounts of time creating screen shots, but I get tired of the tedious process sometimes. It would be helpful if I could create wiki pages & screen shots and provide links for users… but it hasn't worked out yet.
