BUG: Verbum app and news feed
When I use the Verbum app on my Android device, there is a section where I have access to various Logos/Verbum blogs and news. I assume that the "news" section on the home screen of my Verbum iPad app is meant to perform the same function. Or is it? I have never gotten anything on that iPad app news section. Any ideas as to what the problem is? Or is that news section for something else? Thanks.

Originally, the section was created to provide news, including info on sales. The Apple App Store regulations don't allow Logos to advertise without giving Apple a 15% cut. Since this isn't a viable option, it is empty most of the time.

I think there is something else going on here. The two shots below are taken from the Verbum app and the Bible app within a couple of minutes of each other. As you can see there are three news items in the Bible app but none on Verbum. It is as though the news feed isn't linked into the Verbum app on iOS (but there I speculate!)

Since the Verbum app is technically geared towards Catholic users, I wonder if there is (or will be) a separate news feed?

From looking at this on Android it looks like this separate feed exists.
In my Android Verbum app I can see two "news" feeds - one called "News" and one called "Scripture Study Software". The latter contains a number of entries about verbum-related issues.
This seems to be totally missing on Verbum on iOS.

Mark - If there is still time, can you amend your subject line with the prefix BUG: ?

It's fixed now. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. [:)] Hopefully Logos will take notice and weigh in for you.

It's not a bug, there just isn't any news currently published for the Verbum iOS app. We are limited in what content we can display on iOS due to Apple's restrictions.

But shouldn't it display at least the same info as in the Bible app?
as far as I can see there was nothing in the example I posted above which was specific to any app,

I get regular news on the Verbum Android app which isn't Android-specific. I understand that iOS comes with limitations, but, as others have said, the Bible iOS app has more Logos news.
BTW, I got my first bit of Verbum iOS news this evening, welcoming me to Verbum for iOS.
This isn't a big deal for me. But I wondered if something was wrong with my app, because the Andriod app did have more Verbum news. I'll wait and see!
Thanks, Mark

Yes, I got that as well - I wonder if Logos has turned something on.
Also wonder if the feed "Scripture Study Software" which is available in the Android Verbum app is going to be made available to iOS?

Hi Mark,
Nearly every news item in our Android apps give direct links to Logos.com, show items on sale or various specials we might have. If we had the same news feeds in iOS as we do in Android, Apple would require a percentage of every monetary transaction made through the app; we don't currently support in-app purchases. There are no such limitations in the Amazon or Google Play stores for Android apps, which is why there is more news items in our Android apps. I hope this explains why there is nothing wrong with your app.

Hi Graham,
I'll write up a case for this and send it to our development department.

In addition to having no news feed, on mine the Scripture Study Software feed is not updating. It seems to be stuck at the last blog entry just prior to installing the app. Is this part of the same problem, or do I just not understand how to refresh the feed?
Thanks,
Dave

As per Dave's comment above, the new's feed is largely inactive:

The Scripture Study Software feed, is probably suffering the same fate (on iOS). I don't use this app regularly, but I opened it today and see 8 posts in that feed… The top one is "The Road to Emmaus," while the bottom one is about Pope Benedict XVI. I don't think these feeds will be very active due to the limitations Apple puts on them.

Ok, thanks. Too bad - the home page is a bit clunky in the app and I was hoping I was just not seeing how to make it more functional (and more similar to the Verbum home page on my desktop).

The mobile apps and desktop apps are not the same. I know others have expressed an interest in a revision of the mobile homepage... To be honest, I'd like a revision of the desktop homepage too. [;)]
Perhaps you'll get your wish when the 4.x builds of the apps ship. (A Logos employee mentioned the 4.x builds, but didn't give any info of interest such as features or timing... So it could still be far off).
