Would prefer a way to set a default highlighting style without having to confirm it each time I high

When I highlight in Logos on my iPod Touch, I only ever use simple yellow highlighting. The screen is too small for me to mess with anything else, and usually all I use my mobile Logos for is looking up verses, or basic book reading, not complex Bible study.

But every time I want to highlight something, after I select the text, I have to click two buttons (Highlight, and Done) to confirm the highlighting. On the Amazon Kindle app, all you have to do is select the text, and it highlights. So I'm used to that as my reading/highlighting experience. To also have to click TWO buttons is a pain.

So can't we have some way to make highlighting with our most recently used style be the default and not have to confirm it every time? The usability of this feature is sub-par.

I don't have a Kindle. Are the highlighting options as exhaustive as those in the Logos app? Are there any options other than yellow? I kind of see your point, but there may be challenges to changing the current setup. I'm not sure where the highlight options would be put. The only logical location I can think of is to add it amongst the panels (documents, reading panels, search etc.).If that option was pursued, I don't know what that would do to the performance or size of the app, nor do I know what kind of development time that would take.

Rosie is referring to a feature called Quick Highlight (or Rapid Highlight?) recently added to the Kindle app on iOS -- so you don't need to have a Kindle device to try this.

Basically you long-press on a word, and start moving your finger, and the Kindle app starts highlighting using the default yellow highlight style -- just like a real, good ol' fashioned yellow highlighter!

It would be lovely if Logos apps can do the same. People who want to change their highlighting options (highlight style, note file name, etc) can continue to do it the current way.

The problem with this is that we are able to do more than just highlight after selecting text. Unless "long-press" is longer than what it takes to select text in iOS.?

I use the Kindle as well and though I do like the ability to hightlight Logos with many options it would be nice to set the hightlight to a default.

You don't need to have a Kindle to use the app. I don't either. I'm using the free Kindle app on my iPod Touch. And you can download free Kindle books to try out with it.

No, the highlighting options are nowhere near as exhaustive as those in the Logos app -- just yellow. But that doesn't mean Logos can't look to the model of simplicity for something to emulate even in the midst of the richness of the Logos Highlighting feature

That is a problem that is solvable. One possible solution would be to still bring up the Highlight tool the first time someone chooses "Highlight" but add a checkbox next to the currently selected highlighting style (it doesn't need to be on every style, just have it show up when the person chooses on and it's got the checkmark next to it). If the user checks this box (which could be labelled "Default" or "Set as Default" if there's room), then this highlighting style will be used thenceforth without asking for confirmation about what style to choose. There's still the problem of how would the user get back to that Highlight panel to uncheck the box if somewhere down the road they decided to use a different highlighting style? Well, that's probably solvable too, but I don't have time to think of an answer right now. A good program manager could solve it. That's how you interview and hire good program managers, by the way; ask them to solve UI problems like this. And it's up to the developers to figure out a way to do it without appreciably slowing down the app or adding too much bulk to it, and without adding a huge amount of time to the development schedule. It's up to the program managers to push back at the developers when they whine and say "that would be too complicated" or "it would take too long." I'm a developer by background, so I know what it's like to be on the receiving end of seemingly hard feature requests.

Yes, that's nice a feature, but it wasn't what I was talking about. Even if you do have to select Highlight from the context menu that pops up when you select the normal way, it's still one click fewer than what you have to do on the Logos app.

This is a very good solution. You should be able to set a "default" highlighting style so you do the swipe highlighting. My guess is that there are a number of people like me who only use the "Kindle kind of highlighting" in Logos. I really only need to set it to the same setting and then go on. If I need to change (to green, for example) a simple way to change the default or bring up a dialog box would be just fine.

The number one problem I see with a "simple" highlighting system is that it would force all notes into one file. This is, of course, the way it is designed now, but isn't good for the end user. [Large highlighting note files are really bad for syncing and performance]. On many occasions I have suggested another option: resource specific note files. If highlights would go into the note file by default, it would reduce note file size for most every user.
