Placeholder Template?

OK. I give up.
I tried searching forums and WIKI but can't find any description of Placeholder Template.
Any clues?
And No, I don't still have my Captain Crunch Secret Decoder Ring.

A little mystified here, Ron. Where did you hear this term and what is this template supposed to do?

Hi Mark,
Under guides there are 5 listings. Then a line separates the next section. At the top of that section it says: Template Holder [Im using a Mac]

As A24 showed, that lower section is where your user created custom guides will be found. It will be blank until you create a customized guide, The wiki explains how to do this. http://wiki.logos.com/Guides__

Mark, contrary to A24 not seeing this... it's a really top secret Mac item. [:#] see below:
And no... don't have a clue for it's purpose. Someone, somewhere knows. [8-|]

I wonder if Ron is also on beta...

That section is for user customized guides. I don't think its a new feature… Just perhaps a generic name for a customized guide… but I could be wrong. [:D]

I assume that you both tried to open it and a panel opened which was blank. If so, try to right click it and delete.

Opens blank, delete is greyed out. Had this guide from the beginning of L5 (always non-beta, just updated to RC1). I know someone knows the purpose for this guide as I remember (or believe I do) it briefly being mentioned. Since Ron asked the question maybe we'll find out.

If Mark is right, when I create a Custom guide on THIS computer, it should disappear .
Here goes ...

Well I have a Placeholder Template as well (on the PC). Shows what a little closer looking will do for one.
Mine opens up to the scripture passage in Ephesians to which my Bible was open. It does nothing when I chick on the 'go' arrow. Can't imagine its purpose except holding a place and why that would be needed is beyond me. (Perhaps at some point in coding the lower pane this was created to make sure the lower pane worked and it got left in accidentally? Or maybe it must be there so the lower pane shows for those who do not have custom templates? No idea.)

MYSTERY SOLVED
The Placeholder Template ... is .... gone.
So that is what it was. Thanks all.

You can make it go away by right clicking and selecting delete, or you can use it to form a custom template and rename it.

HMM. I did this and it seemed to work, but when I went back to find the new template it was gone. So I don't have the Placeholder Template or the newly named template created from it.

I figured it was an artifact of moving from L4 to L5, did not get an answer in the 5.0 beta and simply deleted it!

Hey guys,
Apologies for the confusion. I was involved in a conversation with development a little while ago and the understanding I got was that something in the Sync process, when converting Guides from Sync to Sync v2 (Better Sync), caused some erroneous guides to show up, called "place holder template".
These guides are generally non-functional and should probably be deleted. We were able to identify the problem, but we're unable to tell who might have been affected, or may still be affected so we've been fielding them as we see them.
I hope that clears up any confusion.

Thanks for clearing that up Mike. [:)]

No, it doesn't, because that 'Placeholder Template' isn't something that's just been added. It's replaced existing guide templates. For one thing, my My Passage Guide and My Exegetical Guide no longer exist since the update to L5 -- the PG and EG have reverted to default -- and I suspect other guides are missing as well. I am so sick and tired of updates destroying hours and hours of work!
And I'm not the only one seeing this. Here's another thread on the same subject, that I never found time to post in: My Passage Guide went missing in L5 upgrade??.

I agree it hasn't been handled properly. I couldn't get a response when in beta, which is where the problem should have been sorted.

Sorry guys, I wasn't that clear. The "Place Holder Template" was caused by a bug that occurred during a sync update. It did not affect all users, but some users would have had 1 custom guide replaced by the "place holder template" guide.
I'm told this should have interrupted the process and prevented further guides from being lost. The resulting "Place Holder Template" should be deleted and the custom guide may need to be rebuilt.
I apologize for the confusion and the loss of data. I'm not clear on the exact nature of the problem, but Development assured me this was a one-time problem which should have affected no more than 1 guide and steps have been taken to ensure it does not reoccur.

Thank you MIke for that info. My lost guide was the one I use the most, but that is OK. At least I have a chance to build it better. [:)]

Again not correct. My custom made default PG, EG and BWS have all been lost and replaced with your default ones.
Furthermore, the bottom left of the dropdown now includes 3 remaining named custom made templates, one 'Placeholder Template', and two 'Copy of Bible Word Study'.
Lastly, the right section includes another two 'Placeholder Template's.
So there's a lot more than one guide affected here! It's going to take me hours just to fix the things I can still figure out how to fix. And what I can't figure out will be lost.
