What L5 package did you purchase? What previous L4 package did you own?

Do you have Topic Guide, Bible Word Study on the Guide menu? How are they not working?

I've not had any problems on Windows 7. Are you selecting one of the suggestions from the drop down menu? The menu includes all the entries that are recognized by Logos.

I use the menu dropdowns. I do not think it is the system. I think the indexing process does not creat a logos controlled vocabulary database properly.

I think you're right that there is an index problem. You could delete the index and try again or call customer service in the morning.

If you did not own a L4 package previously then the upgrade function (using the free installer for L5??) will not provide any databases**, let alone Topic Guide. The free upgrade allows you to use the resources you have but does not provide any perks like you describe.

** LCV and other datasets/databases do not need indexing, so the Indexer just installs them into Logos 5.

I am quite susprised because my take on the L5 Topic guide was that it replaced the former L3 Topic browser that was not available in L4. I still have all of L3 but I now understand (if you are correct) that to have Topc Guide I must buy it. It sounds too much like - let me not go there.

Yes I have Topic Guide and Bible Word Study Guide in the menu. Selecting an option opens the window but it will not do a search. My take on comments was that the Index needed to be built - that I have done. But the window will not search. However, if if use the right click function to do a word study searh in a bible the search function works great. My confusion is that the function works to do a word study search in a bible but not if I select it from the menu.

When you open the BWS guide from the menu I assume you get a blank box with the option to enter a word. As you start to enter a word, you should get a drop-down menu giving you choices to select as below.

Are you trying to enter words in English, Greek, Hebrew??

Just to avoid any potential confusion - when using the right-click function are you selecting "Bible Word Study" as shown highlighted below or are you choosing one of the other search options higher up in the menu?

Thank you your reply gets close to the issue I think.

1. The right click option opens the Bible Word Study search as highlighted by you. The selection then works fine for a Bible Word from within any of my bibles.

2. The Guide menu opens the same window as you showed. But the use of an english or afrikaans word does not generate a search nor a dropdown of suggestions.

What words are you trying?

They need to be present in a Bible on your system.

So, using my name as an example, "graham" doesn't result in any search options.

This may be related to the package you purchased and the upgrade path you have taken - but I don't know the details of the Afrikaans package so can't comment further.

The drop-down should be populated by words from your preferred Bible.

Which is your most highly prioritised Bible?

I am speculating that you have an Afrikaans Bible as your preferred one which doesn't contain these words.

Montie, as I said earlier the free upgrade to L5 does not give you any datasets. And you do not have datasets from L4, such as LCV, because you only have an L3 package. To get the functionality you have been discussing you will have to purchase the L4 Minimal Crossgrade.That doesn't mean that L5 features will work 100%, so you might also have to look at an L5 Crossgrade.

Logos have this article that you can study, but it is not particularly prescriptive e.g. Option 5 (Free Engine) states "No new books; no new datasets; most new features won’t work or won’t work well"!

Bible Facts also requires a bunch of datasets, 3 of which were included with L4 packages, the 4th only with L5 ones. To be able to use all of these you need either an L5 package, or the L4 and the L5 Minimal Crossgrades.

The strange thing is that you see it at all. Since, as I understand it, you don't have the necessary datasets, you shouldn't even see the option. I think I'll go and create a separate bug thread about this, to increase the chance that Logos sees and looks into this.
