I just noticed that the popup text is now in bold. Is that something that is new to 5b? Can the font for popups be changed somehow?

That is what it was like, but now it is back to normal and I did nothing except restart L5 after finishing what I was working on earlier.

Yes the behavior comes and goes - not certain what the resolution will be. Initially by changing font size in text comparison fixed it. But now some layouts are affected while others are not. [:S]
Don't remember seeing it during the beta.
Would be nice to remove the bold.
