Maps in Logos 5

The maps were numerous and awesome in Logos 4.  With Logos 5, I'm looking for a map of Paul's missionary trips and only find the Faithlife Bible Infographics timeline of the life of Paul.

1) I have no idea how I can make a Powerpoint slide with just the maps and 2) I'd like to have access to the same variety I had before.  I can't believe I'm googling to find a map when I had it all in my computer before!

Any help would be appreciated.  Thanks.

    Hi Sylvio:

I just recently upgraded from Logos 4 to 5 and all of my Map sets including the Logos Deluxe, Nelson, and so forth were carried over to version 5 as were all the items in my Library.  Are you sure you're missing the map sets you had in your Logos 4 Library?  You should have lost nothing in the upgrade process.

Did you try to search your library (CTRL-L) for title:map? You may find what you're looking for from L4 that way.

Found the maps!  They were indeed still in my library.  It's just that I need to access them through the library search instead of just going to "Bible places" like in L4.  Alright, I'll be OK for tomorrow morning!  I wish the maps would still be accessible through one search like before instead of through an individual library search.  Thanks guys!

Sylvio ... this thread contains several approaches: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/65960/461181.aspx

The last entry I think is the best but it depends on your issue.

Thank you!               What an absolutely incredible search parameter!                Some great ideas there, eh???    I encourage particularly some of our newer Logos users to please spend a moment and try this out if you haven't done so!

Following Milford's excitement, I replaced my top-line map search icon with KSFJ's new search text, and then tried it out.

    .image.

As you can see, there's 50 (count them!) maps of Paul hidden in that Faithlife graphic.  Thanks KSFJ! Getting better and better.

Peace, Denise!      *smile*                                                                   Peace to all!

You're right, Denise!                        Better and better  --  all the time!

But, just a quick word to newer Logos users ....              It takes years and years to build up a good Logos Library.  For example, I personally appreciate the Logos Deluxe Map Set.  Then I remember that I've had that Logos Resource for 10 or 12 years now!  So, since it takes time, be patient and quite selective; and as Denise points out, what we have works better all the time.

Also, Sean Boisen's Index of Logos 5 links works very well as a PB (PBB?)               I think some Logos users use this index as a note file.  Am attaching it for the convenience of anyone interested.                (I think that perhaps Steve Clark also contributed a bit toward the development of this index, although am not sure.

KSFJ, would you run that search again and do a "By Count" and post? I would like to get an idea of what I'm missing as I build my library. Thanks!

    KSFJ,

Thanks for posting your list of results using this search string.  I notice that you have 8 hits in 2 articles from the ISBE Revised.  I also have this resource in my LOGOS library but when I run the same search string I receive no results from the ISBE.  Any clues as to what I'm doing wrong?  Appreciate any help you can give.  Thank you and blessings.

Note that the results from ISBE have "traveled" and "travels" - so not the exact word "travel" in the search string.

So you need the "Match all word forms" to get these - http://wiki.logos.com/Detailed_Search_Help#Matching_Case_or_All_Word_Forms

Thanks Graham, that did it.  Didn't occur to me to use that option and I saw no visual cues to that in the screen shot.  I appreciate your reply.

    Sylvio,

Just another suggestion that you use BibleFacts (Places) the following ways, (you have a theme "Paul's Missionary Journeys" in mind, I think you can find the verses related the the Missionary Journey quite easily ...

    1) From your Bible Text ... eg. Paul's 3rd Missionary Journey ... Acts 16:1, right button click on the location ... it should lead you the the Logos Interactive maps which are nicer for your PowerPoint Presentation

Alternatively, you open up BibleFacts ... and enter the passage Acts 16:1, from the drop down list pick the location

What a great search. I need to learn how to do this type of searching more effectively.

v 5.1 makes this simpler with an Image search where you enter Paul NEAR (Travel, Missionary) and select Maps from a drop-down of image types. It also produced more results!

I didn't get the www.logos.com maps in the result, and I doubt they can be included.

    Dave,

Thanks ... I certainly hope that Logos would make searching the interactive maps easier and better still together with the search you have suggested.  I like these interactive maps, they look really nice, I found by trial and error, that using Bible Reference on BibleFacts (Places) gets to the maps that I want most of the time, if they actually exist.

Thank you everyone!  I'll take time to "digest" all that and do some tests...  Oftentimes, I need the info QUICKLY, as I'm a few days away from my sermon.  Maybe I'll explore some more during my vacations!  ...then again, maybe not!  [;)]
