If NT Wright wins again, are the same books would be on sale?

"Collections or bundles will not be included in the sale; however, the individual pieces of a collection may be included."
This is my first year... and I'm a bit disappointed.
I was hoping the collection would be included for better price overall....

We worked really hard to include new and/or different titles this year. However, there will probably be some overlap.
Oh, and use these fixed searches to check out the works of each author:

Hi Mike. Welcome to the forums and welcome to your first Logos March Madness!
Even though collections as a whole won't be offered, there will be nearly 500 titles to go on sale. You're bound to find a stellar deal in there!
Who are you hoping makes it to the final rounds?

I'll take a stab at it. This is who I would expect to see in the final four, not necessarily who I would want to see:
N.T. Wright
D.A. Carson
Spurgeon
Lloyd-Jones

It's not going to happen, but I'd like Best, Barrett and Cranfield to go far so that I can get the best of the ICC volumes without paying thousands.

I'd like to see John Walton's books go far.

Oh be quiet, David. Obviously you've never been to Farriday Louisiana (just east of Frogmore though there's no real proof Mickey Gilley visited Frogmore). Plus Frances' opus on modern Babylon is not to be missed (not the one in Iraq).

In an effort to return this thread to an "unhijacked" status, I offer this observation regarding the brackets...
The criterion separating "modern" vs. "legacy" appears to be living vs. dead. With that in mind...Deut. 30:19
...because Mk. 12:27.
God wants you to choose the Modern bracket!! [Y]

If I recall correctly, last year there was a bit of frustration from some participants that some authors were made victorious through, well let's say some slightly unethical methods. Anyways, it's not against the rules per se, however it can irk some to no end.

Hello David
I like Ray Comfort, and he has done some good books ("Hitler, God, and the Bible" to name one). And I believe he has done alot for the cause of Christ, I hope that by the time I am done I hope to have done a small fraction of what he has done.

What is wrong with this?
I'm trying to see what may be available from this author. If one or these books is offered, in order to complete the set, it will cost more than the original set was offed for.

What is embarrassing is pitting him against Sproul. That will guarantee the smallest discount.

I'd vote for both of them over Calvin & Spurgeon because a 75% discount off titles I already have is worthless to me. When my voting was over and done with I took note that I voted for every winner except Spurgeon. I never choose a winner!? What is up?

Yeah, David, hush. I have Swaggart's "Lifeworks" and wish there was a way to complete his commentary set without spending a small fortune.

I personally liked it a lot better when they showed the actual resources right from the start rather than just the authors. I guess they may be just trying to keep us in suspense or maybe they have not had time to actually decide yet. Who knows?

I'd rather think that in the end this is a way of marketing, especially to new users in social media contexts. It's not about giving people the resources they want and for a lower prize, it's about making people aware of the contest, visiting the site often, sharing with others, even trying to get bystanders to take part. More fandom and "controversy" will lead to more buzz.
In this context, people tend to rally as fans behind individuals rather than behind a certain book - Logos may get much more new visitors and potential buyers by a contest of e.g. Piper versus Wright than by pitting "Fifty reasons Jesus came to die" against "Paul: fresh perspectives".
Have joy in the Lord!

I say boycott all sales till they put Martin Lloyd Jones volumes on Romans on prepub.
March Madness will not inspire me to buy unless they truly put good resources into the mix and not the same ols same old.

I think you are right - More fandom and "controversy" will lead to more buzz. I'm just not the kind of person that gets excited about that kind of thing.
That being said I am disappointed to see how poorly Cranfield is doing against Blomberb. Perhaps I just proved your point. [:S]

I could easily be wrong, but what I gather from the way the contest is presented is that everything a given author has available in Logos will be discounted at the ending contest rate for that author. We then get to pick and choose. If true, that's better than it being just a single title by a given author. If I'm right, then you're complaining about not having less choice. Odd.

If it is like last year, it was not quite everything by the authors but a lot of their resources. I was able to pick up Wright's "For Everyone" series as individual books, not a collection. Before that, the "For Everyone" series was only available in a larger N.T. Wright collection but it had been broken up before the sale began.

Jack, Ray Comfort is correct. the Roman Catholic list of the Ten Commandments omits the part about graven images, although Catholic Bibles of course still have those verses in them. Look at any Roman Catholic list of the Ten Commandments.
For example, this one from the Vatican which lists the Ten Commandments in parallel with Exodus 20 and Deuteronomy 5.
http://www.vatican.va/archive/ccc_css/archive/catechism/command.htm
As for the reason why that verse is omitted from the list, I cannot verify whether Comfort is correct that it has to do with graven images used in Roman Catholic worship.

Well Jack, not to start a Protestant vs. Catholic debate (maybe you would like to), in Ray's defense, he says "traditional Roman Catholic teaching," not Bible.

elnwood said:

No, it doesn't. They see it as part of the first commandment, just as Lutherans and Jews do (though Jews call it the second word instead).
elnwood said:Look at any Roman Catholic list of the Ten Commandments.
"Article 1
The First Commandment
I am the Lord your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself a graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them or serve them.
It is written: “You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.”" (italics mine)Catholic Church: Catechism of the Catholic Church. 2nd Ed. Washington, DC : United States Catholic Conference, 2000. #2083.
It's hard to find a more authoritative list than the CCC...[;)]
On the other hand, as a Swedish Lutheran I can testify that I virtually never see those words included in our lists... They're not in the list in the Small Catechism, and not in the list in the Large Catechism. I guess you (and Comfort) are beating the wrong horse... [;)]As for why, the CCC's explanation can be found in #2129-32 (logosres:catcathchrch;ref=CCC.CCC_2129 for those who have it in Logos), #1159-62 (logosres:catcathchrch;ref=CCC.CCC_1159), and 476-77 (logosres:catcathchrch;ref=CCC.CCC_476).
Now let's leave this, as it's outside the Guidelines. I just couldn't let such a blatantly false claim stand.

I hope you are right that every resource from authors will be included but I seriously doubt if that is the case. For one, it will be individual titles rather than sets. They may include one or two from a set but not the entire set. Their goal is to get you to purchase the rest of the set later.

There is more chance of Joel Osteen being the next Pope than there is of Logos offering an entire author's works. If you cast your mind back to last year you may recall that there was much disappointment of the paucity of titles made available from some of the authors, in particular a number of those who made it through to the later stages. One major problem was people like Eerdmans who allowed very few (if any) of their titles to be included.

That's why I will never buy books that are part of sets this way unless I'm sure that I don't want the rest of the set at a future time. Who wants to pay more later?

Since I am an Independent fundamental Baptist, I doubt that I would have made that statement to defend Catholic teaching. I made that statement because Mr Comfort has a habit of distorting facts, and he has done in this instance. Do your own research.
