What's the best way to store personal sermons?
I'm currently storing my personal sermons on a local server but I'm considering other options. For instance I've been wondering if it may be a good option to use Personal Books in the future. Does anyone else do it this way? If not, how do you do it?

I personally think that Personal Books is a good option as it is really easy to simply recompile from a Word doc periodically. Alternatively, you can just drop them into a note file. I personally like the personal book option which give the dual benefit of searching as well as a dual-format backup (PBB and Word).
Just mark the title as a H1 style in Word and then each sermon will have its own section in the PBB.

I'm not familiar with what you refer to H1 style in Word. Can you explain this more?

He means "heading 1." The PBB compiler uses these headings to distinguish various sections and to create a TOC.

You should play with these settings and build a practice document. For example, you may want to create sermon series as "heading 1." It is important to remain consistent throughout the document, so it is better to "measure twice and cut once."

Thanks. I'm not up on short forms like that so I appreciate it. I think I need to become more familiar how to use this feature in personal books. Do you have a link to this?

FYI, H1 is actually a common shortcut for the "Heading 1" style in Word, and Word has a feature where you can set up shortcut names for your commonly used built-in styles. If you type a comma after the style name, followed by the shortcut you want to use (e.g., H1) it will add that as an alias for the style, and from then on if you want to apply that style, you can press Ctrl+S, type your shortcut and hit Enter, and that'll do it.

The wisdom of alabama24 needs to be repeated. Practice, practice then do for real. Don't take our words - try it yourself before it becomes important. Experiment!0 -

I still use Libronix to import my sermons and then use scan to get them in Logos 5

A syntax for Sermons and Illustrations is available + example files. Perhaps others will add to this (you should find more examples in the Files forum).
If you have sermons in Libronix they can be imported and compiled as a PB when v5.1 is released.

This is for the *.lbxlls file which was used for compiled sermons & illustrations in Libronix. When v5.1 is released you can import the source files and they will be converted to docx, after which you can compile them as a Personal Book.

I store my sermons on Google Drive as a Google document (.gdoc) with a note file attached to the text in Logos pointing to the location of the sermon and the date it was preached. I like having access to my sermons wherever I am without loading down Logos with a bunch of large note files. I really like the Personal Book idea but then I wouldn't have access to them from my iPad.0 -
I hope Logos is listening to this conversation because I think it would be worth it to bring back/develop the sermon addin. Honestly, I find it tedious that I have to add a new Word Doc and format it and then compile it every time I add a sermon. I don't just keep track of my sermon, many of my old professors and other pastor's whose sermons I find helpful I add. I average about 5-10 a week, which may not be a lot, but it takes a couple of hours to get stuff in there. That's a pain. Sorry to whine and hijack the post.

I don't use Logos at all to store my sermons. I have a sermon directory (one folder for each Bible book; sermon name begins with Scripture reference it's based on) on my laptop, auto-backed up to a network server, & also mirrored on a DVD-RW each time I finish one. Since PBBs aren't synced (ergo not backed up & hence not available on mobile Logos) & must be compiled on EACH PC they're on, I find PBB tedious for anything I don't regularly use... for archival (including sermon) & library building? Useless IMO.Always, of course, YMMV.Grace & Peace,

I keep my stuff in a notebook[binder] - you never know when the system will fail or ultimately crash, having a redundancy on the ssd/hd.

If referring to restoring the Sermon addin, I don't understand the question unless the "not" is omitted.
In any case the syntax for generating sermons and illustrations as per Libronix has been provided for the Personal Book tool. I'm not sure that the process is any more tedious than under Libronix as the same steps of formatting and compiling have to be followed. But PB is more flexible in that Libronix provided only one book for all your/others sermons.
