As a person in the general stream of the Protestant faith, I would like to take these words to offer congratulations and a message of peace to my Roman Catholic friends here on the forum, for the election of a new Pope!

All other protestants who wish please join with me in offering brotherly love as well.

Hear hear! Perhaps half off on all the papal encyclicals, the Pope Benedict XVI Bundle, and The Book of the Popes.

And everyone who is interested, if you haven't bid yet on The Lives of the Popes in the Early Middle Ages (19 vols.), now would be a good time to do so. It's currently projected at $40 in CP. But it's only at 25% and needs a boost. Close to 7000 pages of biography, insight into development of doctrine, and key moments in the history of the Catholic church.

As a Confessional Lutheran, however, I think of myself a wee bit more as a small "c" catholic (since because of Jesus's Death for me and my Baptism into that Death that I'm part of the "universal" Church.) Romans 6:3-8 Ephesians 4:3-6

But (like in Fiddler on the Roof!) -- on the other hand -- on the other hand!!! -- sometimes I do think of myself as a Protestant! *smile*

I'm 76 years old and perhaps I should make up my mind about these matters before the Lord calls me home, eh???

...and as a learning moment, the Catholic Church comprises over 20 liturgical traditions/rites. Most are members of the Western Tradition or as we call Latin Rite Church (often referred to as Roman by non-Catholics). There are also:

- the Byzantine Tradition which comprise some 14 Catholic Churches,

- the Antiochan or West Syrian Tradition with the Maronite Church, Syriac Catholic Church, Syro-Malankara Catholic Church,

- the Chaldean or East Syrian Tradition with the Chalean Church and Syro-Malabar Catholic Church,

- the Armenian Tradition (Armenian Catholic Church),

- and the Alexandrian Tradition with the Coptic Catholic Church and Ethiopian Catholic Church.

All in communion with the Bishop of Rome. All celebrating the election of Pope Francis. It's a beautiful thing!
