Logos Performance On Latest Kindle Fire

I'm considering purchasing the latest generation Kindle Fire 7" HD.  Though I have a Kindle e-ink model, it seems clear to me there will be no direct export solution anytime soon.  So far, I've opted for the 7"HD 16GB over the non-HD 8GB model.  My reasoning was that for $40 more I get a better screen (I saw them side by side in the store; book samples looked noticeably better on HD), double the storage (8GB could easily find me quite limited), better WiFi performance, longer battery life, plus it's lighter and thinner.  And $214 is worth it just in terms of your collective time converting books yourself to Kindle e-reader format--collective time I should be studying.  Plus, though e-ink is greatly preferred for reading actual books, I think it's also worth it to have the full Logos functionality of Bible verse and footnote links, word study, etc.

That said, the only reason I'm considering a Kindle Fire is to better access actual books on Logos for reading and take advantage of the additional Logos features.

How is the performance of Logos on the new Kindle Fire?  Both the HD and non-HD models have the same processor... Is the performance sluggish or pretty smooth?

Also, does the Logos text display in HD quality like the Kindle book print does?

Thanks for your input.

I don't have the latest Kindle Fire, but since no one else has posted...

I have the original Kindle Fire like using Logos on it.  It's best for reading, highlighting and taking notes.  I am pleased with these features.  It also has a split screen.

The Passage Guide and Bible Word Study features are only accessible when connected to WIFI and are not as extensive as on my desktop.  This is not a major issue for me - any in depth study will be on my desktop anyway.

    Randy,

I have the non HD Kindle Fire. I like it and it does what I bought it to do. I simply use it for reading mostly and don't bother with some of the more study oriented stuff.

Having said that, I also have an iphone and the Kindle is a little slower than the iphone on loading pages. Also I find that sometimes the app for the kindle is a little glitchy and just closes down, especially when opening a different resource. The display has a little pixelation in it (which probably isn't the case with the HD, but I'm not sure). Also I am unable to enter notes on the kindle, only read them. This isn't a huge deal for me because I can just put notes in on my phone if I need to. The only other thing is the touch screen interface is not as reactive as the iphone, which I expected, but it can be a little tedious when having to push the library button 3 or 4 times in order for the library to open instead of the kindle thinking I want to flip a page back. So - a few things that aren't quite as polished as the ios stuff.

Over all, I am happy with it, but if given the option I might have just saved up for an ipad mini if I would have known about all the little quarks involved with the kindle.

I am able to enter notes on my Kindle Fire.  I wonder if there is there something different with the newer ones?

    Thanks, Ronald.

If Logos runs okay on the original, then I'm sure it will be fine on the new one.  Agreed, most of my serious study time is spent at my desk, which I would do regardless of mobile features.  As I mentioned, I'm only buying the Fire to free my Logos books from their captivity!  Reading comfortably is most important, followed by highlighting and search capabilities.  Anything beyond that is gravy.

Glad to hear it's a winner.

    Thank you, Liam.

As I mentioned to Ronald, if it's okay on the original it should be fine on the newer ones.  Some of what you describe as far as speed goes should be taken care of by the new processor.

Agreed, I'm mostly getting this for reading since I've felt like most of my Logos library has been trapped.  Anything beyond that is great to have if it's there.

Thanks for the input, I think I'm on the right path.

You may want follow up with Ronald's comment... You should be able to make notes, etc.  I know in early versions of the mobile app that wasn't available but it is now.

I use the regular Bible app on a Kindle Fire non-HD, and it's a nice option to have available.  I would like the ability to tighten line spacing without necessarily adjusting font size, but c'est la vie.

works ok on my 7" Fire HD. Performance issues I notice are all internet time, not Kindle.

    Grace & Peace,

Thanks.  I'll mostly have downloaded Logos books for reading along with some downloaded Bibles and reference works.  Sounds like it will be fine.
