That is a great question Rosie. I started to look at this and realized that it is a huge task but I'm not sure I want to pre-order these without first knowing the answer to this question. What does this series offer that is different?

This resource would not replace ECF but does have some helpful features. (I have a hardcopy within reach and use it frequently.) The doctrinal index is one of those features...also "new" translation, chronological order, and others.

I would suggest reading the Introduction. Provides background on the project and perspectives from the author. You can find that here. (Scroll down to see the sample pages. The introduction is there.)

Note that Faith of the Early Fathers consists of selections rather than complete works, so there should be quite a lot that is not in ECF, but you won't generally find complete works as you do in ECF. A closer analogue would be The Teachings of the Church Fathers.

As Steve said, it's not really a replacement for ECF, but it is certainly valuable for the features he mentions.

This is just volume 1. I love this resource, there is so much there. Well worth the money!
