maps, how do I find them?

At the moment I am looking at Judges. There is a beautiful map which is about Jephtah. It appears for instance when I look for Gilead. But when I search for Jephta in the Bible Facts Tool, I do not find the map. Is there an index with all the maps? The Bible Facts Tool is very helpful, but I would appreciate also a full index of the maps and a reference to where they are from. For instance I would appreciate to know from which atlas, collection of maps the map with the title Jephtah is, so that I may find more details. (When I copy text, there is a possibility to get a reference, as far as I can see this is not the case with maps).

As for finding out where the maps are from, if you hover over the map's thumbnail along the bottom of the Bible Facts tool (the current map is the one that has the red highlight around it), you will see a popup showing you the source of the map:

In the case of that particular Jephthah map, it says it's from www.logos.com, so that means it is one of their own maps created specifically for the Bible Maps / Bible Facts tool. Actually, for maps that are not Logos maps, usually the source will show up right under the title of the map, for example:

Unfortunately, there is no index with all the maps, a shortcoming with the Bible Facts tool.

Also, the search capabilities for maps are sub-par at the moment. It will not find a map if you search for a word in the title of the map, only if you search for a place which is located in the map. I complained about this long ago. It came up again more recently. Logos development lead Bradley Grainger has acknowledged that it's a deficiency, but made no comments on whether they would plan to fix this.

Since there is no index and no way to search for particular maps by title, I keep a personal index of all the maps I have in my library in a Favorites folder. You have to first discover all the maps you have through a process of exploration, but as you find them all, you drag each one to a new entry inside this "Maps" folder in Favorites, and then you can easily navigate back to that map again when you want to find it.

Also Logos employee Sean Boisen posted an index of all the 64 Logos maps here; that has been turned into a Word document by others, e.g., here. I started with that list for my Favorites "Maps" folder and then added other maps from resources like the ESV Study Bible, Tyndale Bible Dictionary, etc. Here's what I've got so far:

In retrospect, it might be better to put this index in a Note or a Personal Book, because there is no Find feature in the Favorites folder, so you're still left with scanning the list visually (or manually sorting it alphabetically) to find what you're looking for.

Another way you can find maps in your library is to search (a Basic search in your Entire Library) for them using the syntax, with any additional keywords (optional) to narrow down the search

I put both the DOCX>PB and the map-search-query, that she mentions above, on my icon bar at the top of Logos5 (forgot the name). Then I don't have to 'think'.

The query is good too since it saves the complex syntax (for me!). Then all I have to do is substitute 'timelines' or 'charts' instead of 'maps'.

I suspect many don't know Logos also finds the timelines in your books. "Pedigree of the Kings of Gaul"!

One very great long-term solution is to build your own index as a PB. I'm attaching one from Sean Boisen to this post. You can then add to the .docx file according to your anticipation of future needs (or as these needs unfold in the future).

It's a great document; and I'm grateful to Sean. (I'm assuming you've "compiled" personal books in the past ......
