NIV download
Hi there. I'm having trouble downloading the offered NIV to add to the Faithlife Study Bible. Can anyone offer any help? Thank you!

Hi Mark! Welcome to the forums. [:)]
I had the same problem today... I have a secondary account so that I can "see thwart other users see." I'm am not sure what Logos intended to convey about the NIV... Did they just mean that it would be available, or that users would actually be granted a license? (I don't know). Hopefully Logos can shed some light. FYI - some resources Logos grants you access to without actually granting you a license. These resources are available with online access, but are unavailable for download. This may be the case with the NIV.

The Logos Blog article isn't clear, but the Vyrso Voice Blog says
"Download the world’s most popular translation, the New International Version, free through April 8."

Thanks for your reply. I sent a note to some help line thing asking that very question. I do have access to NIV right now through the Faithlife app, but having it offline is what I'd really like. . I'm about to be working on a cruise ship for the next 7 months and spotty access to Internet.
I notice youve got the logos 5 good package. How's it working for you? Do you have all those resources on your iPad

Mark,
In the Faithlife app. locate Library (Home Page, upper left corner, page through to Resources, bottom of the list) and look for the NIV. On the right hand side of the listing there is a little "i" in a circle. Tap on that and you'll have the option to download it (or you should). Once downloaded it can be used offline.

I really like it... I have both an L4 base package (platinum) and an L5 package (gold), in addition to a number of other purchases, including 300+ Vyrso resources (many were free or ~$1.99).
Personally, I dont recommend that most users download their entire library UNLESS they will be without internet. When you say "spotty," do you mean "once a week," or do you mean "in only some places on ship"? An iPad can be used for so many things, I hate to cram it full of books, when I can have nearly instantaneous access via wifi. Also, sometimes things go wrong and the best fix is to delete the app, which means losing all your downloaded resources. It is no problem for me (I have about 100 downloads out of 3200).

Mark is absolutely right... Hopefully this was your issue... I never thought to ask. My secondary account has no purchased material and I am unable to download the NIV through the method Mark described.

Thanks Mark. I did as you said but don't appear to have the option to download it. I can only view it online. Maybe that's all they intended and I didn't understand.
And thank you for the thoughts on the L5 stuff. I'll basically only have Internet in ports. They do have it on the ship but it's expensive and slow. Killer combo. I suppose I could download it all to my computer hard drive and then load whatever I might need on the iPad. I don't know. Can it be loaded on a computer?

It doesn't work that way. The mobile app syncs with the "cloud" (as does the desktop app), so you cant load resources from your laptop. Since it sounds like you might be new to Logos... Yes, there is a desktop app for Mac & PC. There are many more features on the desktop than there are on the mobile app... The software is technically free... you pay for the resources (books & data sets). Many of the features require the data sets, so in that sense, you have to pay for the software. This is typically done through purchasing a "base package."
I'm sure we will get an answer from Logos, but it might not be until tomorrow.

Vyrso can stand for several things:
- A mobile app
- An eBook store from Logos, selling "trade books" (think of your local "christian" bookstore).
- A "quality" or "edition" of resource from Logos.
The website is www.vyrso.com
Make sure you use the same credentials (email & password) as you do for Faithlife & Logos to ensure that all your resources will work together in one library.

Hi Mark,
When a new user downloads the FSB for the first time and signs in, the NIV will be unlocked and available instantly. We are currently working on ensuring that the NIV is unlocked for all current users of the FSB that sign in before April 8th. Please be assured that the NIV will be in your library by the 9th. A quick way to get the NIV instantly would be to delete the FSB app and reinstall it using your Logos/Faithlife credentials.

Joel, thanks for making things clear. So very soon those who take advantage of this offer will in fact be able to use the NIV offline. Very nice.

I just tried this and it worked... but I still got a message saying that the NIV was ineligible for download without a license. (For clarification, I was using a secondary account... not my primary one with my base packages).

It is my understanding that you have to be able to log in to the faithlife app… Are you saying that your device won't run the app? If so, the answer is no… it might be possible to log into the app on someone else's device...

Hi Johannes,
You can get the NIV for free by accessing the FSB online at bible.faithlife.com. If you sign in there you will get the NIV for free.

Actually. that statement is not true. I assume that by "NIV" Logos refers to the 2011 revised NIV version. It was the 1984 version that was the "world's most popular Bible". The fact is that the new "NIV" has been rejected by enough people to make it somewhere between 3rd and 5th in popularity. It is being given away because people don't want it.
Only the 1984 version would be the "world's most popular". Since the publisher refuses to sell the 1984 version, it can no longer the world's best seller. The version available for download is definitely not.

A little research shows you are right, based on dollar sells the NIV is still number 1. But in number of units (Bibles sold) the New Living Translation is number 1. I agree with you about the ESV, but its sells are disappointing. Also there seems to be no distinction made between those NIV 1984 Bibles still being sold and the NIV 2011. The NIV 2011 also benefits from a surprising number of people who are unaware of the 2011 update. Given the negative reaction of several of the largest conservative Christian groups to the NIV 2011, I look for it sells to continue to fall.
