I opened Logos today to continue studying and I am not seeing any of the highlighting I have been doing. What have I done wrong?
Sorry to hear you are having troubles. [:S]
Logos Bible Software 5.0b SR-2 (5.0.2.0743) / Verbum
Windows 7 PC
I see the following options on Visual Filter Menu:
Links to Open Panels (not checked)
Popular Highlights (checked)
Show Page Numbers (not checked)
Timeline Events (not checked)
I don't know what note files are ... I'm still a basic user.
I have just been highlighting text as I am reading, using a highliter pen to make it yellow. Sometimes I write something about it. I have no idea where that stuff goes. All I know is that when I come back to it the highlights are there. Today they are not.
[:(]
By default, highlights go into note files which are named after the pallet the highlighter is in. Look in your documents menu for those files. If you only use the same pallet, all of the notes will be in that one file. If the pallet named note file is missing (make sure you haven't filtered the menu!), then you will need to try to reclaim that file… we can help you with that.
Also note: In any given resource, any note files SHOULD appear in the visual filter menu (as you described above) IF (and only if) you have created a note/highlight in that document.
FYI - I have changed my highlight note behavior… I send highlight notes into "resource specific" note files.
Oh boy ... I'm not feeling well ...
When i click on the documents menu I see many options. I click on Notes and see Untitled Notes ... Thinking I was missing something I did it over and now I see Untitled Notes (2)
When I click on them they are empty.
Sounds like you're clicking in the left column. That is for creating new documents, so what comes up then is always going to be empty. It's the right part of the Documents menu that you need to look in.
From the screen shot below, it sounds like you are clicking on the red box. Is that right? Clicking the red box will CREATE a new note document. Clicking on the Yellow box will show you your note files. To get the documents sorted as I have shown, however, you must click on the "type" column.
What is the name of the highlighter pallet you used?
Hmm. I wonder who argued with Bob that new users would do that. Oh yeah. It was me. [:P]
[I HATE the current setup, but its better than it was. You SHOULD be able to sort by clicking on the buttons on the left. Ugh.]
That is correct. I clicked on the Notes option you have highlighted in Red.
I don't see anything that looks like what you have highlighted in yellow. That space is where I see the Untilted Notes things I described.
I used the Highlighter Pens. I don't see that.
One helper at a time, please. I'll get confused.
I'm already having anxiety about losing a school years' worth of notes. Tell me I can get them back. please.
I don't see anything that looks like what you have highlighted in yellow.
You must click on the column "type." In is in the upper right of my screen shot, just under the search box.
Can you click on the "type" column, then click on the "notes" category (the yellow box in my screen shot)? If you cant see it, can you give a screen shot?
It is way to early to worry. [:)]
The two main probabilities:
Even if you deleted the note file, as long as you have been using internet, it is likely there is a backup copy at Logos. We can walk you through restoring that... but first, we need to know that you have figured out how documents work!
(I will be leaving to take my kids to church now... but I will check back when I can).
Sorry for the delay in responding... work then class today. Just getting home.
I was able to click in the right hand area of the screen as shown above on the "type" column. It diplayed the categories what seemed to me very similar to the things on the right. Apparently all the things I had clicked on before created files. I didn't click on everything. I clicked on each item and it open a "panel" (is that the right word?) but the content were empty...for each one I clicked on.
While doing this I noticed an "undelete documents" menu item back over on the left side. I looked through your instructions again and realized that one possibility was that I may have inadvertanly deleted the file without realizing what I was doing. That took me to an website and a list of files...most of which were these "undefined" documents of the various types.
Anyway....long story not getting any shorter...I saw the basic emphasis markup and highlighter files and clicked the button to the right that said undelete.
Yea!!!! My notes are back. ...I can exhale now!!!! [:D] And sleep tonight ...
Thanks for everything!!!
One more question:
You mentioned that you save notes by resource. Can I do that at this point with where I am? Where can I learn more about that strategy?
Blessings,
Steve

Great! [:)]
It is my own strategy, and it makes sense to me… Here are my thoughts & how you can implement it too if you would like.
I keep hoping that Logos will give us the ability to direct highlights into resource specific note files by default… it would be quite a bit easier. [;)]
