monographs

i have done some simple searches and im not finding some answers to some questions.

i had the scholars edition and upgraded to logos 5. now i guess it is considered the starter.

i thought i has some 4-500 publications in my library but it said i have about 4000.

i see that most of them are monographs.

what are they, where did they come from and of what value are they?

Their titles should be self-explanatory and they are listed in the Upgrade pages as resources you get with the package.

EDIT: most of them would have come from your L4 Scholars package as I see you have the L5 Starter package.

Basically, they are books that don't belong to the more specialised categories of bible, commentary, ancient manuscript, encyclopedia, lectionary, grammar. Monographs will not appear amongst the results of a Passage Guide unless you include them in the Collections section, but they are otherwise fully searchable (for words, phrases, bible references) and can contribute to themes like theology, creation, writings of the Early Church Fathers, church leadership, counselling etc, etc.

Where did they come from is it possible to hide disabled or otherwise get rid of them. Most of them are above my pay grade.... And seem to clutter my Library especially when using the on my iPad.

You can Hide resources but be really sure you don't want them as unhiding is one-by-one.

In your Library Find box enter type:monograph and then select the ones you want to hide.

And seem to clutter my Library especially when using the on my iPad.

Hiding should stop them appearing in Library on iPad as well as desktop.

Kevin, "monograph" just means a regular book. As opposed to a commentary, journal, or other types of Logos resources. All the regular books in your library are type "monograph." It doesn't mean that is some kind of advanced scholarly work.

If you are doing simple searches and not finding answers, it might not be because you have too many books that are "above your pay grade" in your library, but you are not restricting the search to the right portion of your library.

Using Collections is a way to narrow down searches to just the books that are more likely to produce answers you're looking for. Think of it like going into a big huge physical library doing research on some topic. You wouldn't want to search every single book in the library. More likely you'd want to make a beeline to the section of the library on the topic you're interested in. It takes a while to figure out the categories that are gong to be useful in your typical use of Logos, but as you become familiar with what is in your particular library, you can begin Tagging your resources to help with this, or use the built-in Subject metadata or Community tags to build collections that will be useful for searching.

If you exclude monographs from your searches, you will be missing out on much useful information.

Kevin - Did you "purchase" (for free) the "Perseus" collection?

I was thinking the same thing when he said his library had close to 4,000 resources. L4 Scholar and L5 Starter together do not contain that many resources. However, downloading Perseus would add a hefty (and very annoying) 1,500+ monograph books.

I had to call customer service and tell them I no longer wanted this "free" collection. It really bogged my library down.

Logos 5.1 library shows mytag(s) in Library icon view. Thankful for Logos 5 having option to filter Library list of resources by Collection, which includes mytag:
