What resources have been removed from Logos Packages over the years?

I would be interested to know if possible what resources have been removed from Logos Packages over the years. So starting from L2 or whatever was first through L3 and into L4. I don’t know if anyone has this information or not but it would be interesting to see what resources were removed.

I would love to know if there are some resources that were originally packaged and now no longer are available for example BAGD 2nd edition. I thought about trying to hunt down some of these old packages to see if I could find some and buy them so I could have those no longer published by Logos resources.

It would be great to have BAGD in Logos to use for reference and to compare. I already have BDAG 3rd edition in Logos.

What comes to mind is Stuart's "Old Testament Exegesis:  A Handbook for students and pastors" and Fee's "NT Exegesis...", the counterpart.  Both came on a cd rom which I never bought and cannot find for sale anywhere these days.  I have the books in print.  If someone knows if or where they are selling, can you please post it?  Thanks. (Although this is outside of Jim's parameters in his question since they were not part of a Logos package)

Still available as individual purchases but no longer in base packages are A Biblical Theology of the OT and A Biblical Theology of the NT both edited by Zuck. These are the only volumes I can think of off the top of my head, but there's been plenty over the years.

I had  the Jerome Biblical Commentary, the original NASB, and the NA26 in Logos 2.0 Level 3. Two of these have been superseded with later editions. Can't find Jerome on the Logos web site.

    Two things come to mind:

    Interpreter's Commentary by WJKP.

The Daily Bible Study "Barclay" commentaries, both the NT and the later Gibson? OT.

Also, as mentioned, the Jerome Biblical Commentary.

I have BAGD 2nd ed. I don't remember what package it came with - either Scholar's Library which I had from way back, or Scholar's Library Gold which I upgraded to in 2007.

Some resources I know of that used to be available in Logos format (not sure if they were in packages or as individual products) which are no longer available (at least through Logos) are:

    • Encyclopedia of the Reformed Faith
    • Reformation Study Bible
    • Columbia Encyclopedia

I was able to find the first of these through a third party reseller on a brand new CD. They still have it. The other two are nowhere to be seen.

Pretty sure that came with Series X (scholars).  That is where I got mine.  I nurtured that puppy through all the upgrades, keeping those old 2.1 disks around, just for that resource.  Now I have it eternally (lol) on L4 with BDAG!

Yes.  Howard Hendricks "Living by the Book" is one of those resources that Logos no longer is able to sell.

According to George Somsel in this post, New Testament Exegesis by Gordon Fee and Old Testament Exegesis by Douglas Stuart used to be offered in Logos format (he has them), but they no longer are. Those would be great to bring back!

    Mark,

You say, "I had..."  If you had it in Logos 2, don't you still have it?  I still have all three of these.

I think it is possible to obtain these removed resources if you find someone who bought them, but no longer uses them.  If an agreement can be reached Logos will transfer the license for a $20 fee.

It would be nice if there was some Logos supervised forum where such resources could be exchanged.  You have something you don't use that you swap for something another person doesn't use.  Logos gets a $20 fee, and it would be a great service to offer.

    Reformation Study Bible

There are still copies of the eBible Platium and eBible Expanded Edition still out there if you will search for them on the internet. These collections include this resource. At a book closeout site the cost of a "Bargain Book" copy of the eBible Expanded is less than $40 (Bargain Book means the box has mark on it). The eBible Platium is less than $150 and was an amazing collection. Nelson's current collections don't even come close to this one.

Yes. You can find it HERE. Be aware that it is the same resource as the Geneva Study Bible. It was just renamed. If you already have the Geneva Study Bible the Logos website still shows you do not have the Reformation Study Bible. That should be fixed before somebody buys a second copy.

I'm seeing two versions of the Reformation Study Bible in my library:

    1) A 1995 version published by Thomas Nelson based on the NKJV (which I believe I got a while ago as part of an eBible package)

    2) A 2005 version published by Ligonier Ministries based on the ESV (which I got this year during the March Madness sale)

As for the actual contents, I haven't compared them.

While you probably won't be able to buy anything from these sites, if you want to see the contents of the various eBible packages, here are some places you can look:

For the Ultimate Bible Library, Deluxe, and Expanded Editions, see this archived page from the old Rejoice Software website:

    http://web.archive.org/web/20101129014022/http://rejoicesoftware.com/ebible_compare.htm

For the Discover, Standard, Deluxe and Platinum Editions:

    http://www.christianbook.com/html/cms/general/eBibleChartFinal.html

I believe that most (if not all) of the contents from the Pastor's Edition are shown here:

    http://www.discountbible.com/eBibleP1.htm

Finally, here are the contents of the Essential Bible Library:

Also, see this thread chronicling my recent journey to find the discontinued Oxford Bible Commentary:

Finding a copy of that was brutal! [:)]

The Daily Study Bible is in the Series X Scholar's Library Silver Edition, but I don't believe that is currently listed in the wiki of discontinued base package contents:

Yes. The original L4 Platinum also came with Pillar Commentary. The original L4 Platinum library was one of the best upgrades ever. I have often told my friends that it is generally a good deal to get into a Bible software package of some sort and always upgrade when a new version comes out. If this is all you do over the years you will get some of the best deals.

As mentioned here, the original Barclays Daily Study Bible came with one of the earlier packages. So did BAGD. I am very glad I have BAGD and can empathise with people on here when they wished it would be sold again, simply because it is referenced to frequently.

Like others on here, I would sure like to get the Exegesis handbooks by Stuart and Fee. You can only get Stuart's book in Kindle. I am not aware of Fee's book in any electronic edition anywhere.

Below is a list of things that were dropped between L4 and L5 Portfolio. ISBE and possibly Chafer's Systematic Theologies were the biggest losses. ITC was a loss if you favoured it as a commentary. It all depends on what you are after.

By the way, the Internet Archive Wayback Machine (http://archive.org/web/web.php) is a good way to look at old versions of the Logos website to see what they once sold:

    Here are some examples:

A while back I created a wiki page for the contents of discontinued Logos base packages. Others have added to it. It is not complete yet, and will always be a work in progress. There are all the other Logos 4 base packages besides Portfolio to be added, and there were multiple versions of the too (Phil Gons listed all the package versions up to KF here, and there's also been JG and IH). Not to mention Logos 5. If anyone feels like using the Wayback Machine to fill in some more, that would be useful.

knowing that BECNT was a part of a base package then removed ... kinda discouraged me from buying the BECNT series now. [:S]

Don't let it get to you Mike. I missed the 'GREAT' Dec 2011 sale (the more you bought the more you got cash back for) by a month and some change. Packages and sales change all the time. If you like the product go for it (especially when it's on sale). That's my two pence.

    • Are ebible and logos comparable . How?

Not quite sure what you're asking.  Nelson's eBible packages were collections of Nelson books in a Libronix-format (Logos 3) package.  You might still be able to buy these collections if you can find someone still selling them (they were discontinued several years ago).  They will integrate into your current Logos library.

For most of the 200x's at least, yes.  Look for the red Libronix logo, or the Greek Logos 2 logo on the box.
