Why would anyone want this if they already have it on Logo's?
The McNeil/Battles edition is perhaps the definitive edition of the Institutes with the best index and extensive footnotes.
[Y]. Well said.
Is Logos getting the Battles Institutes?
If enough people pre-order it.
Yehaw!! I've been waiting/hoping for this in Logos. It is the best edition, hands down. The footnotes and indexes are superb (you can look up all of Calvin's references to the Church Fathers, for example). [Y]
I am so stoked as I really want this in Logos, I find the translation much more readable than Beveridge and it has jumped 50% overnight to in development.

Now this suggests to me that it will move into production real soon as tends to happen when it is artifically pushed into development.
Proof that e-mail's work.

Thanks for you input Rosie[Y]
The idea that it will link (better) to many of Calvins source materials is enough of a reason to push it into production.
I trust it will be superb in Logos4 [:D]
Excellent! Over the top and under development.
That was fast. Excellent news. Can't wait for this. One of my most treasured hardback books. I will keep the hardback volumes (they've got all my underlines from when I took a seminar on Calvin's Institutes with J.I. Packer -- what a treat!), but it'll be nice to have access to it in Logos.
Calvin's Institutes with J.I. Packer does sound like a treat.
Now that I have an iPad, I'm concerned that this doesn't have a mobile icon on the product page. One of the reasons I've ordered this to read this version without having to carry the two hefty volumes around.
Has any one asked about the lack of mobile access for this resource before now?
Now we just need a second version of Menno Simons. [;)]

I would really like to know the answer to this question as well, for such a key feature it is a pity that Logos is a bit slapdash about letting us know if there will be mobile access, countless times there is no icon but you can access on the iPad.
I am really stoked about this resource, the printed version is so wonderful and I find it so much easier to read than Beveridge.
This was the translation we used in a mandatory Calvinism class I took when in Calvin College. Great to see it approaching Logos publication.
Found a great discussion by Justin Taylor on the differences between the translations:

Looking at the page for the older version of Institutes it doesn't have a moble symbol either (unless I'm missing it). But I know that the old one is moble because it works on my phone and Kindle Fire. Strange?...
Nevermind!
- I actually just looked on the page of the new Institutes and it says it runs on windows, mac, and moble. It says it under the: "be the first to rate this product" ...!!!! just missed it!

Yes, the mobile indicator was added a few months ago (http://community.logos.com/forums/p/55136/470770.aspx#470770).
It makes me wonder if sometimes they forget it when they post a prepub, or if they are still negotiating licensing terms during the prepub stage.
Today?!
Yes. While we have been sipping the Beverage of Calvin, now we can worship as we (Mc)Kneel before him. [:D]
Just joking, folks. A true Calvinist would never worship a man.

Grumble, grumble. Bah, humbug ! [:D]

How many Battles will be started on this thread?

Good one ! You've got the spirit of the post.
Has the shipping been Instituted yet???
Has now! Just got the email 15 minutes ago. Still trying to get the "Update now" command to recognize there is a new resource and then I can start reading!
I'm now reading McNeill/Battles on my iPad. I can now sell my hardback copies. Maybe.
Yes! This is my most anticipated Logos resource ever. And it has all the indexes. I am so pleased.
One weird thing, though: when I click on a link in the index, it jumps to my other edition of Calvin's Institutes instead of within this resource, even though that other edition is not in my prioritized resources list. I know I can fix that by prioritizing this one, but it seems strange to have to do that. If you're clicking on a link within one book, it should by default be a higher priority than any other edition of that book that you happen to have in your library. I think I'll report that as a bug.
Default prioritization has always been alphabetical by title. But I agree with you.

Mine too. This is a good day!

After reading this I went into Logos (still Logos 4) and Prioritized this edition of Calvin's Institutes, so now on both my PC and iPhone it goes to Battles instead of the Beveridge (?) edition when I click on a link in the Index to Battles' Institutes.
However, no matter how much I tried to prioritize Charlesworth's OT Pseudepigrapha, when I click on a link in my iPhone reading of it (e.g., I'm reading Jubilees and there's an asterisk the brings up a note that cross-references 1 Enoch), it opens up R. H. Charles' Pseudepigrapha, not James Charlesworth's. I tried prioritizing it as a series (Anchor Bible) and then as the three individual volumes. I put Charles' series below Charlesworth's in priority, and also removed Charles' from prioritization, but links in Charlesworth still open up Charles' Pseudepigrapha instead, at least on my iPhone.
There are actually multiple datatypes that would have 1 Enoch, as I found out on http://community.logos.com/forums/t/64765.aspx. Perhaps that is the issue somehow?
He would if he were predestined to.

Hmmm, a true Calvinist would not crack such a joke He would if he were predestined to. -Donnie
Absolutely, which makes it eminently Calvinistic.
That's not strictly true. By default, Logos manually prioritizes some resources that it thinks are useful, particularly to help new users who haven't set prioritization. The obvious example is Bibles - by default the ESV will be prioritized first, not the 1901 ASV.

Do you know of any other resources types that Logos automatically prioritizes like this?
There are thousands of default prioritisations (although lots of those are for Perseus). For example the top dictionaries for Syriac, Aramaic, Coptic, Hebrew and Greek are Analytical Lexicon of the Syriac New Testament, HALOT vol 5, A Concise Coptic-English Lexicon Second Edition, HALOT, and BDAG. If you buy a world-class resource and haven't set prioritisations, Logos will make sure it comes first.
But it's much more detailed that just a top dictionary. The default prioritisation for Aramaic has at least ten entries, including:
Greek has at least 20 default entries, and English has at least 49. There are also default prioritisations applied to non-dictionary datatypes. For example, the default prioritisation for the Apostolic Fathers datatype is at least:
I'm saying on each occasion that it's "at least" this, because I can only see the default prioritisation for resources that I own. There's some missing from the lists above, but I can see where the gaps should be.
I can only see the default prioritisation for resources that I own.
How are you seeing these? Are they in a database table or are you using a Logos tool?
They're in keylinkmanager.db. If you have SQLite, and load keylinkmanager.db as "main" and catalog.db as "db2", the following query will display the default prioritisation for your library:
SELECT Title FROM main.HeadwordMilestoneIndexes, main.Resources, db2.Records WHERE Language="el" AND Id=Resource AND Rank>1000 AND Resources.ResourceID=Records.ResourceID ORDER BY Rank DESC
Here's mine for Greek:
If you want to use other datatypes, the SQL is:
SELECT Title FROM main.DataTypeMilestoneIndexes, main.Resources, db2.Records WHERE DataType="dayofyear" AND Id=Resource AND Rank>1000 AND Resources.ResourceID=Records.ResourceID ORDER BY Rank DESC
Here's my default prioritisation for devotionals:

Thanks. So which database contains the custom prioritization?
So which database contains the custom prioritization?
The same file, but the KeyLinkRules database. I confess I'm surprised that the rules aren't made into static tables, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

So I can set up different Priorities for different types of resources? Is there a Logos wiki page or someplace that shows how?
Yes - http://wiki.logos.com/Prioritizing should get you started.
