How to look up original Greek and Hebrew meaning

Hi, I read a previous post on this but still didn't understand what the solution was. I just downloaded the free app for iPhone and don't own a Logos package. The bible version on my free app is the ESV but if I press down on a Word all I get is copy, look up, search, share, etc I have read that I need to have an inter linear version. How do I get this? Is it possible without buying a logos package?

Suzanne,

If you're using the ESV it is interlinear. Once you've clicked and got the options dialog up, tap the "look up" option. I am not sure what you'll get on the free version you're using but that is the pathway to accessing the Hebrew/Greek under the text.

Hi Suzanne - and welcome to the forums

Thomas is correct about how to use the ESV to get what you are looking but the issue - as you suggested - is the lack of a base package.

i think the only way to te the interlinear capability is to purchase a package

if anyone else knows of any other options, hopefully they will comment.

I just checked my second account (without a base package) and the RI is unavailable. You will need to make a purchase. Calling Logos would be your best bet. I am unsure how cheap you could go to get this feature.

Hi,

thanks for your replies. I tried the Lexham English. Still not sure I'm geeting what would be available with an interlinear version.

When I click on 'look up' for the word church in Matthew 16:18, 'on this rock I will build my church' I get Dictionary information, and Origin, which says from Greek Kuriakon (doma) 'Lord's (house)' from kurios 'master or lord'.

With the interlinear version does it give more than this?

A basic package with the ability to search for greek and hebrew meaning appears to be the Bronze logos 5 package at $629.95 which seems a lot to pay.

This is what I get with I replicate your instructions in the LEB.

First I long press Church and tap INFO when it comes up...

EDIT: Somehow my pictures disappeared...

Then I click the Bible Word Study option

The first screen shot is what it should look like on the iPhone app. The second screen shot actually shows the reverse interlinear from within L5 (Mac).

It is a lot to pay if your only desire is to do simple word searches. The strength of the Logos system is having a digital library, along with study tools, at your fingertips. The ability to search a vast library is wonderful… and when you look at the cost of purchasing large amounts of paper books, then suddenly it becomes cheap.

I see them… but now that I am responding, I don't. Strange.

Anyways, I wanted to give you a quick tip about posting images from your phone… It is helpful to restrain the size… I change the width to 300. Compare my original pic with this one:

Thanks, that's really useful to actually be able to see what you get when you have a package.

Hold down Lock and home buttons at the same time for a second. Your screen will flash.

Then go into your photos and upload the screenshot to somewhere like dropbox or whatever works for you. Then link your photo.

Actually, you can now upload directly from your iOS device. Just use the paperclip icon.

Ah, well I was assuming that she wasn't using the iphone to browse the forum. I seldom use my phone for that purpose-though I can do the same thing with Android. Good point though. [y]
