Requesting user feedback: Send to Kindle feature

Yes, I would use a send to Kindle feature but like Floyd's idea better--print to epub or print to mobi/asw. I have both a nook and a kindle, but actually prefer the nook. And (as Floyd mentions) epub is not a proprietary format.

What do you like about the Nook that is better? I have concluded the opposite, so I am interested in what your thoughts are.
It is possible that when Logos is talking about "send to Kindle" they are using that generically and may be thinking about epub or another universal format. I have no idea though.

Could someone from Logos tell us what the plans are for this, and especially a timetable if it is going to happen?
I will gladly be a beta tester! [;)]

I'm kinda new to Logos, but not so new to the Kindle. I'm kinda curious, what would be the big plus to having a Kindle export feature in Logos? With the Logos/Vyros reading app on practically every platform except for the dedicated Kindle/Nook black & white reading device, is it just to have this extra choice for reading content?

It's for e-Ink display, I presume. Since buying an eInk device, I read about twice as much as I used to, and most of that reading is Logos resources that I've exported in the current, rather convoluted manner.

Yes... but for many people it isn't an "extra" choice, but the "only" choice. For example: A Kindle is $69. An iPad (my preferred device) is $399 (for a mini). Also, there are people who prefer an "eInk" reader, which is more "natural" and has the added benefit of being visible in full light. I don't have a Kindle, and if I could only have one device, it would be an iPad... but if Logos goes through with this, I would probably pick up a Kindle during black friday.

I agree with Alabama24. If I was a Kindle owner and I didn't have an iPad, this would be a real attraction to me. (in addition to some prefer the Kindle display)
The trouble I see though is that if you have an iPad AND you have paid a premium for a Logos resource to be tagged, I assume the benefit of being able to send it to the Kindle somewhat diminishes because of reduced functionality. You also can't access other features such as reading plans, notes and highlighting.
As someone who does not have a Kindle, I rejoice with those that this would be a great benefit, but I would hope that we would not see this done at the expense of iPad improvements such as clippings, prayer lists and other enhancements as listed on uservoice.

Definitely...would love the option.

It looks like Amazon is rolling out this feature to websites:

I've just had a pretty frustrating morning converting to Kindle or ePub using Word/Calibre, so I'd certainly like this feature.

Yes please!
For me logos has become a tool to do referencing work, rather than reading work, since it's just too painful to read long text on (compared to my kindle). I don't care about notes on kindle, since I used it for reading, not referencing.
Please give us this feature!

I'd be even more interested in a Bible app for Kindle that had all the current features....

Kindle's aren't capable of running apps like Logos, are they? NOTE: we aren't talking about the Fire, which already runs the android app.

No. Most other e-readers are, though, but only if you root them. Unfortunately, though, the Logos Android app won't run even on rooted e-Readers because it requires too high a version of Android.

This would be awesome! Right now, I print the book into .txt and email it to my kindle. Would save a step -- and possibly look better (a .mobi file instead of .txt).
Also, it's time consuming, and sometimes crashes Logos, because you have to select each section of the book (which can be TONS!). Though sometimes I only want to send a piece of the book. It would be nice to at least have a "select all" box.

Mark, could you elaborate on this? I was thinking about purchasing a Kindle Fire for the purposes of reading kindle books along with my Logos library. Are you saying the Logos kindle app doesn't work on Kindle Fire? Thanks.

No, I'm not saying that. I will run on the Kindle Fire. I classify the Kindle Fire as a tablet, not an e-reader, so I wasn't including it in my statement.

My preference - reference books be on the computer; books meant to be read (not for reference) should be in print form because it's easier to read and easier on the eyes.
So...if Logos is going to implement send to Kindle function, that would dramatically change my reading practices. Furthermore, I'll probably get more non-reference books from Logos so I could read it on Kindle. At this stage, I stay away from purchasing non-reference books from Logos for this one reason - difficulty in reading it on a tablet for a long-period of time.
So, I would say, "Yes" to Kindle!

Thanks Mark....I was just searching the forums looking for any comments on the kindle stuff in considering a purchase. Thanks for clarifying.

Exactly, I have a laptop for heavy duty work, and a cheap Kindle device for reading. I also agree with Mark--my reading has gone up since purchasing the Kindle, and I would like to be able to read through some of my Logos books on that device.

YES, absolutely !!

Suggestion: It would be wonderful if Logos would develop their own e-ink tablet that was fully functional. Just like Amazon has their own proprietary device (Kindle). The functionality of the Logos mobile app on the iPad or Andriod, combined with the easy reading of e-ink would dominate the Christian book market.

Why? That would be a quick way for Logos to go out of business. There is no way Logos could compete with Amazon, so why bother? Much larger companies like Barnes & Noble are on their death beds in the attempt.

I'm not going to go out and buy another device. I have kindle. I have a computer for Logos. If I had money to throw around on devices, I'd get a hand-held device like a Tablet (e-ink or not) to read on the go.
However, if there was a way to read Logos on Kindle, that would boost Kindle sales and perhaps give Logos some leverage.

That's not much of a market. It's been done before, Family Christian Stores came out with their own tablet, but due to economies of scale it wasn't anywhere near the capabilities of similar devices in its price range. In fact, I'm fairly sure that even Amazon sells Kindles at a loss and make up for that in book sales. Logos has nowhere near the market size (nor capital, I imagine) to sell an e-ink tablet at a remotely competitive price.

Tonya, are ~175 positive replies to a post on the forums (and 480 votes on uservoice) considered to be a good indication that users are really interested? Is this sufficient for Logos to go ahead and "invest a significant amount of time" on this feature? Appreciate an update. Thanks!Tonya J Ross said:Before investing a significant amount of time on this item, we would like to assess user interest

I would definitely be interested in a Send To Kindle Feature.

Do you have any idea how many people use Logos? Or how many of those users frequent the forums? I just wonder what 184 responses would represent to Logos.

That is a great point: views vs. responsesJon said:Or what it means in relation to the 6000+ post views...

The number of views isn't useful since it isn't a measure of unique views. Every time someone posts to the thread all the regulars view the thread again to see the new post(s). There's no way to turn the view count into any reliable measurement.

So the view count is like hits on a webpage. I was wondering if there were 6,000 people who read the forums.Randy W. Sims (Shayne) said:The number of views isn't useful since it isn't a measure of unique views.

Somewhat.
There are well over a million Logos users. This is broad spectrum, from Vyrso, to Verbum, to Logos desktop, to mobile phones etc. A number of these are one time purchases, though I have no access to that metric.
As of today there are 111,979 forum users. This is a very small (about 10%) registered base (not counting unregistered readers) as compared to, say a random choice of 1.5 million Logos users.
It is fair to say that registered forum visitors fit a basic profile of (A) at least moderately technically capable (B) invested in Logos to some degree, probably representing repeat purchasers for the most part. Those two metrics alone make them more likely to use this sort of feature.
Combine that with the point that not every thread gets this kind of traffic either in terms of views or responses and Logos has a reasonably good metric (given their polling base) that this is a popular notion.
Yes: I am aware that I'm shooting from the hip on this, but I don't have access to their marketing database. [:D]

And then there's those who read by e-mail, and don't show up as having read at all.

More support than I can remember ever having seen for a suggestion on the forums. (Uservoice has shown more for some things, though.)
