content of information window and tool tips pop-ups

I'm noticing that when I hover over a word in the BHS that I get quite a bit of info in the information window, but almost nothing in the tool tip pop up window. For example if I hover over זָהָ֖ב All I see in the pop-up is

Hebrew Morphology (Westminster)
noun, common, masculine,
singular,
absolute

But in the information window I get all this good stuff:

zahab (zahab [392 / 339])

noun, common, masculine,
singular,
absolute

So... is possible to

a) change the content of the pop-up window to give me the full info from the information window?

No, particularly for an Interlinear. It's content is determined by the Keylink Options for specific data types. On the Display tab go to the option that determines what is shown by a mouse hover and select either Preview... or Display...

NB. Technically, it is a Tip window as a Popup is another data type that also uses a tip window!

Yes. On the Display tab described above select Do not display... for each data type. But I recommend that you do not do this for all data types and use the Information Window only when the data is missing from a tip window. You can tailor the Information Window from the Preferred Books tab in Bible Tools Options (Tools menu).

Okay, so I'm able to get it to display the transliteration by turning on the display for the "Hebrew" data type, and the morphology is under the "Hebrew Morphology(Westminster) data type. I thought that since the dictionary in the info window is listed as Swanson's I could get that to appear by displaying its data type, but nothing happens... is there a way to get a definition of the word in there? Seems that would be a pretty standard wish. I'm surprised it isn't there by default.

Swanson's is the Greek lexicon/dictionary that is selected for the Greek data type (not to be confused with Greek Morphology Swanson which is a data type). Unfortunately (long history & difficult to explain) lexicon definitions do not always appear in the Tip window and this is where the Information Window has to be used.

Certainly for major works like NA27, BHS, and the LXX hovering should be able to pop-up a defintion of that word.

After all, ZHubert had that exact feature on his (free) website for years.

The problem with that is that you then have only a single word gloss (or perhaps a couple). What you really need to do is to get a good lexicon such as HALOT or BDB for the OT and BDAG for the NT (L & N are a secondary choice, but BDAG is preferable). You then should look through the various entries and check the references to see how the word is used in different contexts. It does not suffice to simply pick from a select few glosses the one that seems to suit your understanding without having checked the usage.

Ideally, there should be an option to either display a gloss in the pop-up (short defintion) or to display the entire content of the info window in the pop-up (long definition).

You don't need a simple definition with an Interlinear because a gloss and/or literal translation is available via the View menu. The gloss of a non-interlinear can be displayed via the English data type! Other texts (e.g. TR1550) with Strong's numbers will provide a definition via the Greek Strong's data type. Hebrew bibles are not as well served but AFAT has a gloss.

You are too easily satisfied. Why bother with the original language if you are going to be satisfied by a simple gloss?

Thanks, that's a just what I am looking for Dave! It works like a charm for Greek, but as you note it does not work for the BHS (Hebrew).

AFAT is the Anderson Forbes right? I'm not really familiar with that, how does that compare the Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartencia (BHB) as far as being a good MT source?

The tip window says "narrative, text" for every word in the AFAT which I'm finding annoying. Is there a way to turn that off? Or more to the point is there a way to determine what data set that is coming from so I can turn it off?

I would rather have, at the very least, a simple one or two sentence defintion of the word, and preferably the option of displaying the entire content of the info window in the popup. This is already there for the Greek NT (na27) which looks like this (note that the information window and the popup both are displaying a full lexical entry, oddly however the pop-up has Louw-Nida, while the info window has Swanson's) :

In contrast for the OT the BHB gives me nothing in the pop-up, and the AFAT just gives a single word gloss. Why can't it give the lexical entry in the info window? Just like it does for the Greek NT?

The LXX is a little bit better, giving at least a phrase defintion, but it also does not supply the lexical entry in the info window.

The data is there, as the info window shows, and it is already displaying in the Greek NT pop-up. It really ought to be there in the Hebrew OT pop-up as well. If the software can't already do this, then I hereby submit it as a feature request.

Here's a tip to determine data types and easily change Keylink options:-

Right click a word, select Selected Text and Selected References until you find the value e.g. Narrative. Select that, choose "Keylink options for ...." and change the Display option.

You should find 3 for AFAT. In addition, you might want to turn off display of the Text data type!

As I said before long history, difficult to explain. The NA27 is the exception, but elsewhere you must use the Info Window to get a lexical definition, which originates from a separate resource, a lexicon, via keylinking of the Greek data type in the bible. A gloss displayed via the English data type is stored in the bible resource itself (if the gloss was in German you would use the German data type).

Thanks very much for the info on determining keylinks and customizing the info window. I really appreciate it [:D]

I can appreciate that the current way the Libronix system architecture is set up it can't show the lexical entries in the pop-up, but if that is the case then Logos should change the system so that it does work in a future version. It seems pretty evident that the current way it is structured is not ideal, so a software engineer needs to think through a better approach. If a door is closed, go through a window.
