I can remove the split window on both the Logos and Vyrso apps but not the FSB app -- is that by design?

Yes it is by design.
I think that if you drop down the menu of the resource (the square containing the book's cover or Bible's icon), you can choose to "stretch across both columns", which produces a single, larger reading pane.
[edit]: Sorry, I'm talking about the bible.faithlife.com web app here. I had forgotten that there was a FSB app proper.
