How can I compare "rema" and "logos"?

I would like to compare the greek words "rema" and "logos" (both often translated "word") through the whole of the Greek NT and be able to highlight all the occurances of each. Ideally I would like to create a printable passage list with every occurance of either word, (or perhaps just a search report) that shows both the NA27 and the ESV with the two words in question highlighted in individual colors (perhaps one in blue, the other in green), and with the English renderings in the ESV also highlighted. I tried this using Search, and it worked, but the color of the highlighting in the search report can't be controlled, and the highlighting doesn't print. I created a passage list based on the lemmas for each word, but can't figure out how to highlight each word, or the equivalent word(s) in the ESV. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how to do this, or is it even possible? Thanks.

Thanks. That worked! However, I do wonder if it is possible to set the colors. The default colors in the Search Report (at least for 2 search words) are blue and pink, and they are fairly washed out when they print. If I could choose darker, bolder colors, they might be more noticable. Anyway, it is good to know how to keep the highlighting when I print. Thanks for the tip!

Yes: in the Search Panel, click "Make Filter" (at the top). Then you can choose the formatting (from any highlighting styles that you have defined). Set the name of the visual filter by clicking "Untitled Visual Filter" at the top. It should be enabled by default in any Greek morph resources you have; you can turn it off or on by using the "three circles" menu in any resource panel.

(You will actually want to do this one lemma at a time so that you can set different formatting for highlighting each lemma.)

lemma:ῥῆμα is the correct form. lemma:ῥήμα appears to be a typo used in a handful of Greek Apostolic Fathers resources; I will make an internal enquiry about this. lemma:ρημα is invalid, because no Logos Greek morph databases use an unaccented "ρημα" as the lemma form (the accents are significant).

Accents often distinguish lemmas that would otherwise be homonyms. This is very common in Hebrew; a simple Greek example would be lemma:εἰς and lemma:εἷς.

For this reason, we don't ignore accents when searching lemmas. In Logos 5, you can now use a root search to find groups of related lemmas, which is smarter than just stripping accents.

I would suggest otherwise.

Some users have trouble entering diacritics and pointings.

I suggest that it would be smarter and more intuitive to build a search engine that is inclusive, i.e. a search term that has no diacritics or pointings would end up finding all lemmata that fulfill those search conditions.

Cf. the behavior of google and some other search engines.

Agreed. But in a morph search (using Bradley's example), you can just type g:eis, and you're then presented with lemma:εἰς (to; into), and lemma:εἷς (one), and you simply make your choice. Easy!

When you're searching, the ability to distinguish between homophones is one of the things that makes Logos incredibly powerful. If you took away that feature, the usefulness of the morph search would plummet (for me, at least). Why on earth would anyone want to search for εἰς and εἷς with no distinction?

Ironically, there's also a type with the lemma ε̣ἰ̣σ̣ appearing. It appears to be coming mainly from the Papyri (you can find them in a Basic search), but they're not lemma tagged there.

It's not possible to change the search highlighting colours, but you can cheat by adding search terms that Logos won't find. This search terms will be assigned a colour, but if you choose words that don't exist, they won't appear or affect the results. So searching for lemma:ῥῆμα OR jdkalsjd OR lemma:λόγος, will give you orange and red (which might not be much better, but you get the idea). That said, the search highlights will always appear somewhat washed out, because if they were darker you wouldn't be able to read the black text they were highlighting.

Bradley's suggestion of a visual filter is a good one. It gives you control over the highlighting, but it won't give you a list of references, just highlight them in your Bible.

They only other thing you could do would be to do an analysis search, export that to Excel, delete all the columns apart from Reference, Previous Context, Result and Next Context, and use conditional formatting to add your highlighting. You'd then have to repeat the search in a reverse-interlinear. It would work, and give you complete control, but you might decide it's not worth the hassle (I estimate it would take 10 minutes to do).
