Hey all.
I kept getting the attached error messages when I would try to update L5. So, I uninstalled it and now it gives me the same error messages when I try to install it anew. Ideas?
Stephan, have you tried rebooting windows?
If that does not work, you may want to try a repair via control panel
The other option is to download one of the free registry software (I recommend Advanced System Care) and let it clean up the bits and pieces left behind after an uninstall.
Logos is closed today, due to their Independence holiday.
Thanks, Lynden.
I've rebooted Windows and cleaned the registry after the uninstall and that didn't help. How do I repair it through the control panel?
These errors usually indicate lack of administrator privileges. Admin privileges are required to install the Logos pre-requisites. Can you confirm whether the account you're installing on has admin privileges?
Yes it does.
Then we're going to need to see install logs. There should be one or more in the folder "Logos Log Files" in My Documents. I think with Logos 5 the files are called DigitalLibraryInstall.log and logossetup.log, but check the dates of the files in that folder and upload any install logs that are relevant.
Weird. I ran the setup file "as administrator" and it seems to be working now. It's downloading my resources. Brilliant!
Thank you, Mark. If I run into any more problems with the install I'll post to this thread.
Blessings!
If you install using "as administrator", you can run into problems later when an update is ready (that's because you won't be running Logos as an administrator when it tries to update, so it won't have sufficient privileges). You can overcome that by running Logos as administrator when an update is ready (don't do it regularly, as it will break interaction with Word).
However, perhaps the best way would be cancel your download and try and fix the administrator privileges problem and then install Logos normally. But it's up to you of course.
Oh. Well then...
Here's the only file in the folder.6558.Logos4Crash.txt
That's from an ancient version of Logos (4.2b), but the error occurred recently. That may confirm my suspicion that your install problems have been occurring for a long time, and a problem system wide (i.e. not just related to Logos). Logos 4.3 was released on August 9, 2011.
Perhaps the best place to start is here: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/program_install_and_uninstall/?wa=wsignin1.0
After running that, make a note of anything it says, then try and install again. If it doesn't work, I'll suggest some other steps.
<edit>As you're on Windows 8, if the above link doesn't work, try the instructions here. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_install/windows-8-install-some-software-using-msi/48881523-1a5d-4c43-abc4-01b1ce3ebf3a (let me know if you need to know how to do that)</edit>
Ok. I went to the first link and ran the fixit app to uninstall L5 and all its registry entries. The reinstall still didn't work. So I checked out the second link. I added permissions for my user and it installed with no problem. It's back to downloading my resources again. Woohoo!
Thanks again, sir!

Glad it worked out!
