Restoring saved layouts

I was excited that the layout function has become significantly faster in V.5.1. So I started to delete many of the layouts that were automatically saved (years of layouts). However, I did not realize that I also deleted the named layouts that I had explicitly saved. Unfortunately, they don't show up in https://documents.logos.com/ Is there a way to restore them?

We don't have a way to do this. I know that Logos has been able to do this in some cases in the past. I think you'd have to contact Customer Service on Monday.

Unfortunately not (unless you have another installation which has not yet sync'd as you can open it offline, change/add a name to layouts and then allow it to sync).

I assume this means that it is not possible to restore some file containing the layout data from one of my local HDD backups.

Will give support a try on Monday.

It is worth trying, provided you work offline** after restoring the layouts folder at \Logos5\Documents\random_id\LayoutManager or Logos4\Documents....

** start Logos with CTRL key held down.

That happened to me , but luckily they had a bug in the design, so I could recover. That's a big reason I was waiting for 5.1, and to put the 'Update Layout' in an icon. That way I never have to go to Layouts which takes forever, and you can easily make major mistakes with a PC tablet.

Dave, you are smart. I had tried restoring things in these folders but did not go offline. So as soon as I restarted Logos, it downloaded the newest version from the Logos servers, i.e., overwrote my restored file.

In case, somebody else runs into these problems, here are the steps that I followed (using Windows 7):

1) Quit Logos.

2) Go to: C:\Users\....\AppData\Local\Logos4\Documents\....\LayoutManager

3) Delete the file "layouts.db" or, if you want to have a backup, rename it to a different name.

4) Rename the newest file "layouts.db-x.bak" ("x" represents a number, in my case it was "layouts.db-9.bak") to "layouts.db"

5) Start Logos with CTRL key held down and then start it in offline mode.

6) The lost layouts are now back. Load each one of them and then select "update active".

7) Quit Logos.

The next time you start Logos, you can start it normally (i.e., go online) and all the lost layouts are back.

The layouts.db file is in folder: (replace username with your Mac user name and replace random with your random 8.3 folder name)

/Users/username/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Documents/random/LayoutManager
