Future Logos versions of Biblical Archaeology Review (BAR)

For those of us who purchased the BAR (1975-2005) in Logos we know that it is no longer a product that they carry.

I knew that it was a long shot but I contacted the Biblical Archaeology Society directly to express my desire to see them produce the issues post-2005 through Logos in the future. Here is their official response to me today:

We will not be offering 2005 and forward on the Logos Bible Software. We are generating a DVD that will contain all BAR issues from 1975 through 2012. It should be ready mid-September. Unfortunately, the cost for adding to the Logos Software system has become prohibitive for us.

Needless to say this is disappointing news but if you are like me and want to see this change perhaps you could consider personally contacting them to ask them to consider changing their minds. At least it is worth a try. Check here for contact info https://store.bib-arch.org/customerservice.asp

I would also ask that Logos considers changing their minds too and try to work out a deal.

Many of us expressed our disappointment when the Moody Titles were pulled from Logos earlier this year. We are not sure exactly what the issues were around this decision but we know that the issue with BAR is definitely connected to money. This is disappointing in itself but it also makes me wonder about the future.

I'm all the time postponing subscribing to print BAR magazines despite a recommendation from a very academic person who has also been a pastor, on Christianforums; and I would very much like to see new BAR issues in Logos!

This is very disappointing but not surprising given the history. It does make one wonder, it takes two to tango as they say, I am sure both sides are implicated in this battle that hurts customers of both.

I would love to see the later/latest BAR in Logos.

This is disappointing in itself but it also makes me wonder about the future.

While it don't surprise me any. Logos seems to be a very expensive program to get data into… To get the eTEXT of the New Interpreter's Bible processed into Logos was going to cost over a $100,000, if BAR wants to have it's items prepared for Logos I am guessing the cost would be too high to have them do it and perhaps they have no interest in the pre-pub system. Which don't always work for a product that isn't in high demand (even with a popular resource like the NIB, Logos cannot seemingly get them into production).

This is a huge disappointment. It is so useful to be able to search for recent finds on places that you are reading about in the Bible. I use it every week.

I think we have nothing to lose with being persistent and continuing to trumpet this both with Logos and BAR.
