Commentaries: individual volumes

Hello,

I sent an email to Logos, and have not heard back. Basically, I was trying to get a good commentary on Deuteronomy, and didn't really find one. The one by Peter Craigie is available if you buy the whole NICOT/NICNT collection (over $1000) but I can't get the individual volume. Anyone know anything about this? Should I just go out and buy a hard copy?

The smallest collection is $900: The New International Commentary on the Old Testament (NICOT) (23 vols.)
This set is known to be difficult to break up. There's been discussion recently but no indication whatsoever that You would soon or even eventually get individual volumes:

Thank you Lynden, I have seen that list. I don't mean to be picky, but I'm on a very, very limited budget and I am reluctant to buy a commentary that is not fairly highly recommended by the two sources that I have.

Thank you David! I should have mentioned this in my original post, but I really like the NAC series, but I am expecting to upgrade my base package, and the NAC commentary comes included in the upgrade I'm looking at. So I don't want to spend money on a commentary that I'm going to receive later... That is a good choice though!

With the Dynamic Pricing on base package upgrades, (part of?) what you spend to buy the individual volume will be credited when you upgrade your base package.

I would also suggest http://www.logos.com/product/5457/the-expositor39s-bible-commentary or http://www.logos.com/product/8593/tyndale-commentaries as excellent commentaries that are not included in any base package and are much less than the NIVAC or NICOT/NICNT.

http://www.logos.com/product/1320/word-biblical-commentary-volume-6a-deuteronomy-1-21-9 and http://www.logos.com/product/2299/word-biblical-commentary-volume-6b-deuteronomy-21-10-34-12 are also available as individual volumes. The series is rated highly (although the volumes on Deuteronomy are ranked 8) at BestCommentaries.com

Hi Thomas. If you buy the NAC volume now, when you do come to upgrading your base package you should be given credit for owning that volume of the NAC series - your upgrade price should be discounted accordingly so that you won't end up paying for that volume twice. Therefore, if you need to volume now, but it and you shouldn't lose out!

Logos won't break up the collection. If you really need it, buy a hard copy, or get it at the library, or search through a copy on Amazon or Google Books to find what you need.

I hope that Logos will break up the collection. After all, Accordance did – you can purchase the individual volumes of NICNT quite easily. Would love to see Logos offer the same.

I dont believe Logos will either, at least in the short term. If its possible, I'd upgrade to Logos 5 Silver because you would get the NAC and its fine Deuteronomy volume. The Tyndale commentary set is also relatively speaking affordable and has a fine commentary on Deuteronomy. If you need Cragie, you could look at the google preview to see if your passage is covered in the preview, or you could do like I did -- buy individual hardback of the NICOT/NICNT and sell them on Amazon if you get the $ to buy the set on Logos.

Unless he upgrades within the next 2-3 months, he will most definitely lose out doing so. The book is $20. The credit is unlikely to be more than $1-2.
