The Apostolic Fathers

I only upgraded to the Starter package as I have an assortment of collections and one-off purchases that I have collected over the years (since the Logs 2 days). The starter doesn't contain some of the early writings and I want to add some so..

Which of The Apostolic Fathers packages is the best? I am looking for an English/Greek version and can't decide on Lake or Lightfoot. Or is there a different one that I should consider?

Money is tight after the upgrade and I don't want to screw this up.

I like Holmes since it's notated, plus the accompanying write-up. http://www.logos.com/product/3937/the-apostolic-fathers-greek-texts-and-english-translations Neither Lightfoot nor Lake are notated but all 3 are morph-tagged. The notations allow you to link AF to you Bible using the CitedBy tool in Logos.

But for everyday searching etc I use the interlinear (into's, morph'ed plus english glosses and LN lookups). http://www.logos.com/product/6091/the-apostolic-fathers-greek-english-interlinear The interlinear is also notated similar to Holmes.

Really depends on what you want it for. All four can feed into the Bible Word Studies (uses the top prioritized).

BTW: If you do much AF work, you should sign up for: https://www.logos.com/product/27506/classic-studies-on-the-apostolic-fathers since its currently discounted. Lightfoot is indeed 'it' for AF.

I am leaning towards Holmes but it is described as a "Greek-English diglot edition" and I ma not sure what that looks like. Is it the English text with the Greek and morphology show below each word? Can the Greek/morphology be turned off so that you just see the English text?

I'm just not familiar with all the different display format that Logs uses.

The Holmes product is two separate resources (as are Lake and Lightfoot) . The English translation is a completely separate resource from the Greek text with Interlinear Morphology. The two resources can be linked together so that they stay in sync. The interlinear lines in the Greek version do not have any English glosses or translation:

The Apostolic Fathers Greek-English Interlinear is a single interlinear resource that includes an English literal translation line. But since Greek is the base text, that would not be good for reading in English even though you could turn off the non-English lines if you wanted, because it would still use Greek word order and be very wooden:

There's also the Apostolic Fathers Reverse Interlinear which is not available as a standalone product (don't know why). It is only found in base packages Silver and above. It is an interlinear with English as the base text. This one would be good for reading in English, and you could turn off all the interlinear lines, but you'd have to upgrade to Silver to get it:

In Logos, for Holmes, there are two resources (books). One represents his Greek text, the other represents his translation. The Greek is morphologically tagged, with Lemmas, but does not have glosses. You can scroll the Greek and English side by side in linked windows.

If you're choosing between Lake, Lightfoot, and Holmes, then Holmes is the best choice. Lightfoot's English translation is a product of its era (last quarter of the 19th century) and is difficult to read. Lake's (1912-1913) is better, but a bit Victorian. Holmes is modern and very readable.

If I go this route then I will definitely go with Holmes as I really need the English.

Unfortunately the Reverse Interlinear is what I was looking/hoping for. But, I can't afford to upgrade to Silver so unless Logos opens it up as a standalone I won't be able to get what I really wanted.

Just adding: Rick's Reverse Interlinear is contained in Verbum Foundations as well - it's list price seems to be half of Silver, due to dynamically pricing (taking into account what you already own) I can't say how much this might be for you - if you like, check out http://www.logos.com/catholic#compare

I would second Denise's recommendation of Holmes. Note that in my screenshot I have shown only the Greek text and not the unmentionable abomination which makes desolate one's knowledge of Greek.

Maybe I am digressing a bit. Is there a plan to allow us to see only the Greek text without the parsing info beneath the text, e.g. a "hide" option? The info is undoubtedly helpful yet it can be a distraction at times. I also notice the same thing for some other Greek lits (can't remember, it could be Josephus or a classic).

You can turn all this info off by unchecking the corresponding boxes on the Display menu at the top of the resource window.

Rosie answered the question above for the desktop versions of Logos. Are you referring to the mobile versions of Logos? If so, I know that control of the interlinear lines is in the mobile plan though I don't know if it has been fully implemented. I'm of the impression that the mobile versions of Logos respect your desktop settings as regards interlinear lines. While this is the case for me (likely a result of using a development version), in the past it has not been the case for other users. You might want to try adjusting your interlinear lines via desktop (mac/pc) and then seeing if those settings persist to the mobile version.

Still, it would be simpler to just add is as a stand-alone purchase.

Over the years I have done each upgrade and added .individual books to meet my needs.so my library is kind of eclectic. I just wish I could do the same this time.
