Error Code 2902

Does anyone know what this error code means? I had to restore to factory default recently on my laptop, and when I try to install either the Logos 4 or 5 engines to recover my Logos resources I get this error halfway through the installation, with a message that says it can't find a folder to create an .ink file, then it erases the installation completely and ends. I have reinstalled my Office software, Photoshop Elements and several other programs with no problems, so I don't think it is a computer issue, but am at a loss. Any help would be appreciated.

These error codes are generated by Microsoft's installer service. 2902 means "Operation [2] called out of sequence.", and Microsoft suggests this "May indicate that the installation of Win32 assemblies was authored incorrectly. A Win32 side-by-side component may need a key path."

That's not all that helpful, as if that was the problem, lots of users would be experiencing it.

So I think we're going to need the logossetup.log, DigitalLibraryInstall.log and PrerequisitesInstall.log files from Documents\Logos Log Files - if you don't already have these files, turn on permanent logging, then try and install Logos 5 (not Logos 4) again.

It's possible that the problem may be being caused by file permissions problems on your Start Menu. To give you instructions to check and fix that, we'd need to know what operating system you're using. Windows 7?

I appreciate the reply, thank you. I am running Windows 7, SP1. Where would I find those log files if they exist, and if they don't, where do I turn on logging so that they will after I attempt to reinstall Logos 5? Could it make any difference that the original version of Logos I had on this computer was Libronix, and so perhaps some of those files are still around or are interfering? I did notice that there is still a Libronix folder, though there isn't much in it. The program files are gone, I assume only the data files are what I see. The other computers I have installed Logos 4 on had never had a previous version on them. May mean nothing, just wondering.

Here are two of the log files you mentioned, the prerequisites didn't log because I had already run it previous so it didn't install again. If you need me to uninstall and reinstall it I can. Just let me know.

Hi Terry,

The error is occurring when Logos is trying to create the shortcut on the desktop. The error message returned is "Verify that the destination folder exists and that you can access it.", and the folder is C:\Users\Public\Desktop.

First, check if the shortcut icon already exists. If it does, delete it, and try the installation again.

If not, then the public desktop folder needs to be writeable, so I'm not sure why it's not. The video below should help you to change the permissions. You need to add Authenticated Users to c:\users\public\desktop, and give them full control.

After you've done that, try the install again - if it still fails, repost the new logs. A screenshot of the permissions for C:\Users\Public\Desktop would also help.

Thanks much Guys! Adding Authenticated Users to the permissions for Public Desktop did the trick! I don't know why it wasn't there, or if it should have been, but it is now and it let the installation complete. Thanks again, I appreciate the prompt assistance very much!
