Verse of the Day stuck in my lock screen
I'm a Windows 8 user on my laptop and had installed the Verse of the Day app and used it for several months. After that time, I went into settings, lock screen, and tried to use something else. Verse of the Day kept coming up whenever it went to lock screen. I uninstalled Verse of the Day. Still came up. I uninstalled the Win 8 Logos app. Still came up. I emptied my browser cache (Chrome). Still came up. Reinstalled Verse of the Day and tried changing things in settings. VOTD hasn't shown in settings all this time. Whatever I specify for the lock screen, one of about three verses of the day comes up when I restart.
Seems there is now nothing I can do to get my lock screen back. Any ideas? This is one of those little things that is simply annoying because it's so stubborn. Verse of the Day is a nice app, but I don't want it to follow me to my grave!

Someone with Logos aaid earlier they were looking into the problem with Verse of the Day and Win 8.1 Preview. I'd love to hear if there's been any progress. I see the same verse on my lockscreen every day, and I can't turn it off. It's stuck there. Is Logos going to fix this or do we have to wait for Windows 8.1 final?

Are you running Windows 8.1 Preview or the original Windows 8 release?
We suspect that Windows 8.1 Preview has a bug (that affects VotD) but don't know for sure. If so, it's possible that this bug may be fixed in Windows 8.1 RTM and VotD will start working properly again. Or, we may have to develop a workaround for the problem. Unfortunately, Microsoft has made the decision to hold back Windows 8.1 from developers until it ships. This makes it extremely difficult for us to ensure our applications are fully compatible with Windows 8.1 ahead of launch. Since we don't have access to the final bits till October 18th, we're probably at least two months out from developing a fix. (And no, I can't explain why Microsoft has chosen to release things this way... it makes life very difficult for developers.)

I'm in 8.1 Preview. Guess I'll just have to wait for 8.1 final version. I'd love to take my lock screen back, but it's not really a crucial issue.

We haven't been able to reproduce any issues with Verse of the Day on systems that are running the final version Windows 8.1 (downloaded from the Windows Store).
Are you still having problems? If so, does uninstalling and reinstalling the app help?

See my explanation in the other thread. Way back when I first got the problem, yes, I uninstalled the program, and the verse still appeared. I reinstalled it and selected a different lock screen option, and the verse still appeared. Uninstalled Verse of the Day again. Months later, that verse is still in my lock screen. Hard to be mad at a Bible verse, but I'd sure love to have some kind of choice. In the other thread I asked if you could inform me where I would find the file on my computer (of that verse) so I could perhaps manually delete it.

As far as we know the issue with VotD being stuck as your lock screen was related to a bug in the Windows 8.1 preview. Updating to the official 8.1 release (installed from Windows Store) should resolve the issue. Have you done this?

My understanding is that installing 8.1 final means reinstalling every other program I have (apps and programs). That could be incorrect, and if so I will try it. But if I have to reinstall all my programs, I'll just stay with the Beta.

Well, on the understanding that my FILES would be saved but I'd have to reinstall all my programs, I went ahead and installed Win 8.1 final. Certain files were saved, but disastrously, my Outlook older files (archives, etc.) were not. I've gone into Windows.old and there are just no .pst files there. Gone. I'd had them backed up on Carbonite until recently, when I decided that the growth of cloud solutions meant I didn't need Carbonite anymore.
Certainly not a Logos problem here--Logos of course beautifully reinstalled from the Cloud and never missed a beat--but there are times when I want to drop a bomb on Microsoft. We who went with the beta of 8.1 were definitely punished this time. Those who did not install the beta didn't have to do any reinstallation.

Rob, I agree with you.
I don't think Microsoft realizes how important our archives of PST are to us. I had a Similar experience when upgrading from Windows 8.0 to 8.1. Some display issues with my mouse (I have a MICROSOFT mouse running on MICROSOFT Surface Pro with MICROSOFT Windows 8.1 - so I don't understand how there were conflicts!) Microsoft Surface Support told me to create a new user account then transferred me to Microsoft Office support who told me to create a new PST (linked to a different default email address). I was able to recover the info from the old PST, but it doesn't work the way it used to. I am upset at how Microsoft handled this!! I would think that as long as I stay within Microsoft branded hardware/software. Problems with a mouse disappearing should not happen.

Thanks, David. And I want to add that Logos really shined throughout this. The Verse of the Day sticking was an 8.1 Preview issue, not a Logos issue, and I believe the SDK was not made public by Microsoft. Once I did the final 8.1 upgrade, I then clicked on the old (now empty) icon on my desktop for Logos, and everything reinstalled very smoothly from the Cloud, again. Including notes, settings, etc. This is how things are supposed to work. Microsoft has thrown Skydrive out there, but it doesn't play well with things like Carbonite, and I haven't been able to trust it to update Word documents.
I don't know why I even stay with Outlook other than old habit. But I'm now looking for a way to do automatic backup of .pst files without having to do it manually. I had thought Skydrive would now be built into all these Office programs, but it doesn't seem to be the case. If you work in Outlook.com there are some options but I haven't yet found them for desktop Outlook.

My lock screen is still updating, so it seems that could still work. You might want to try to go into the settings in the app and turn the automatic update off, restart and turn it on again.
