forum feature

It would be nice if faithlife had the ability to be set up with an option to post more in a forum type fashion. It is rather annoying to have such short posts when having a discussion.

Peace!       *smile*               I most certainly agree with you!               Also, I would find it very helpful indeed to be able to edit a post....   like we can do on the forums        ...................                           I make mistakes and change my mind         however                 FaithLife is "unchangeable" like the laws of the Medes and Persians, eh???

The best forums I have used had nested topics and replies, much like folders and subfolders. Such a design makes it easy to follow specific topics and discrete discussions because responses are attached directly to the earlier comment and are slightly indented below it. The only disadvantage to these types of forums is that long discussions eventually get indented so far that each line can only contain one or two words, but that is usually pretty uncommon. I rarely see these formats anymore, unless it is a very old forum. These days, it is more common to find single-column formats like the Logos forum, which is too bad because, while simpler, it is less user friendly in terms of thread-tracking. It all looks very neat, but it can be rather bothersome trying to keep up with who is saying what to whom, what with scrolling up and down and even having to click back a page or two to see what the previous person said. I definitely prefer the nested sub-folder format. The problem of creeping indent can be reduced if indents are only one or two spaces.

A few additional comments on that format--posts can be given titles and if a post is a reply and no title is chosen, then the post is titled RE:[title of previous post]. Also, in such formats, it is common to have unviewed posts appear blue (for instance) and those already viewed as gray, sort of like in most email in-boxes. That is very helpful in keeping track of which posts have been read and which have not. Also, if a conversation goes off-topic, it is a simple and easy thing to identify that sub-thread and ignore it if the subject matter is not of interest.
