Syncing between iPhone and iPad
Should my position in a book sync between iPhone and iPad? (iPad 3 & iPhone 4s, both on iOS 6, latest version of Logos app)
I think it has maybe done so once or twice (or maybe I just assumed it did), but the majority of times it doesn't. The book is only at the position it was when I last read it on that device.
Is there any way to force it to sync? (like the sync button in the kindle app)
I'm used to books syncing automatically with the kindle app, but doesn't seem to work with Logos.
So far I've mostly just used Logos for commentaries on my laptop, but am considering buying a few books / Puritan sets. But would think again if they weren't going to stay in sync.

The location data DOES sync. That does not necessarily, however, mean that you can stop reading on one device and pick up reading on the other device. Here are some tips:
- When you have a resource open on a device, Logos assumes that you have it opened to a particular place for a reason. It stays put no matter what.
- When you open a resource from the library, it opens to the last used location from ANY device.
- If you want to "pick up where you left off," you will need to make sure you open a different resource when you stop reading on a device. Otherwise when you return, it will still be there at that spot, rather than where you left off on the other device.

Correct me if I am wrong, but kindle has "sync to furthest location," which isn't the same as "sync to last location."
Personally, I think Logos could improve this area, but the problem starts with their concept of "layouts" on the desktop application. The crummy concept extends to mobile. [:S]

I just checked, and from what I can tell, this is correct.
- Opened a book for the first time on my iPad. It opened to where I left off on another device.
- Turned to chapter 16 on my iPad.
- Opened the book on my iPhone. It opened to the "furthest" location, not to chapter 16.
- Turned to chapter 2 on my iPhone.
- Opened the book on my iPad. It was still on chapter 16, not chapter 2.
- Turned to chapter 12 on my iPad.
- Opened the book on my iPhone. It was still on chapter 2, not chapter 12.

Kindles have an option to 'sync to furthest location' but they also automatically sync to last location.

- In the cloud age, I don't see the logic in point 1 at all. If I'm reading an ebook I want to be able to pick wherever I left off no matter whether I lift an ipad, iphone, ipad mini. Especially when this is the way the industry leading e-readers (kindle - and presumably everything else too) work. It's also the way desktop Logos works.
- I especially don't want to have to open a different resource each time I set down my ipad on the off chance that I'll be out and about later on and have the opportunity to read on my phone while I wait.
- Despite my disagreeing with the principle, I could live with it if it actually worked. But I have been unable for love or money for about 2 weeks to get Logos on my iPhone to catch up with where I'm at on my iPad. I've tried opening different resources on both devices (as per point 3), force quitting etc etc, but the phone version stubbornly sticks to where I last read from it on the phone.
Then today I tried one final time to open it on the phone before I replied to this thread and it worked. But from extensive efforts to recreate this, I can only conclude that it's random chance whether it works or not.0 -

Are you talking about a kindle device, or kindle app? I have never had the kindle app automatically move to the last location across device apps. I have had it ask about moving to the furthest location. Did I say never? I meant never ever, under any circumstance. [:P] If you can do so, please teach me. [:)]

- First, let me stress that I am not arguing that the current behavior is how it SHOULD be... Merely explaining the way it works.
- Second, the desktop app does NOT work the way you describe. It works exactly as I described the mobile app, which is part of the problem. If you open to a saved layout, the resource stays put. If you open a different layout, the resource will open to where you left off in that layout, NOT where the resource left off in the other layout. If you open the resource from the library, it will open to the last synced location, from whatever the last layout used.
- The behavior of layouts (poorly named) is desireable. If a pastor is working on four sermons, he may want to have the same resource "stay put" for each of those different projects (What a layout SHOULD be called).
- Each app and device takes on its own "layout."
The best fix for this, in my opinion, would be for Logos to create a "mobile layout" (better, "project") which would then sync to the mobile apps... (Or to let you select which layout/project you want to sync with).
As for your "random" behavior experience... It works for me perfectly every time... When I follow all the rules. No, you should not have to do so. No, Logos has not written out the rules (I had to discover them for myself). I bet I could make it work just as described On your devices... But it truly is a pain.
