How to uninstall Perseus Classics Collection

I downloaded over 600 mb of something I cannot read. I was wondering why something this huge was free, but I did it anyway. Now I've got a bunch of goobly-gook I cannot read nor understand of course. This is called the Perseus Classics Collection.

Can someone please advise as to how to get rid of something like this from taking up too much room on my HD ... thanks!

There are a lot of great U.S. Civil War resources in there, plus a lot of other very, very good "stuff" -- besides the Latin and Greek material. Which to many Logos Software users is actually good "stuff" - not goobly-gook *smile*

You have two options:

You can "hide" the books you don't want to use ... http://wiki.logos.com/Hiding_Books

OR You can call Logos and have them rescind your license for those free resources.

Good luck...I agree with you. Ask Logos to remove Perseus and say "no thanks" to all future or ancient demi-gods going forward.

Please don't call it useless and pointless -- the Perseus package! There is some really wonderful -- impossible to get anywhere else in Logos format - very valuable!!!! material in there.

It appears then according to the responses, that Logos has to be given a call. As much as there might be something in this that is useful, it really isn't for me - not when I got to wade through pages of material in a language that I cannot understand - no sir, that is a total waste of time. And thus, it's coming off my machine!!! :-}

Hi Bootjack;

Logos has come a long way since early 4.x in being able to hide resources from view, which will allow the resources to be retained (in case you later decide that you would like to view them) while not having them clutter your library listing. There are 2 options:

1. Call Logos and have them completely remove the resources.

2. Create a collection with the the rule "myrating:>=0 -publisher:perseus", naming it something like "Full Library: No Perseus", and setting it as your default Library view.

I'm thinking that it will at least free 600-800MB from your Hard Drive. [:)]

BTW: A lot of us Logos users was initially caught by this big FREE collection of resources, not fully understanding it's content. My issue with it was not of space, but that it took up so much of my library (especially, once I found out that I couldn't read or appreciate it at the time). There was no easy way to remove this from viewing at the time, other than to hide the resources 1 by 1 (later in chunks to 10-15), so I had to contact Logos to have them remove it on their end. Now with v5, it is much easier to hide them with collection rules, but still no easy way to completely remove them (other than contacting Logos).

With Logos 5 (actually from 4.6 onwards) you can remove large selections of resources from your library in one go - details at http://wiki.logos.com/Hiding_Books

Please see screenshot below.

To get this I:

filtered the library by publisher
selected all the books - using click / shift-click
used ctrl / right-click to bring up the option menu
this would have given me the option to hide all Perseus resources which would have resulted in them being removed from my library and hard drive when I next restarted Logos

The Perseus Collection has some great resources. However, the whole thing turned out to be a fiasco. I, too, had to get rid of the bloated thing (I called Logos to have them remove it). I wonder if Logos is looking into making this more manageable. It would be nice to use this in conjunction with my LSJ, but I'm not willing to have my whole library become ridiculously cluttered.

I've tried and hopefully have followed Graham's advice correctly. Logos is presently indexing. But as to this huge thing offered free or no, we should be advised that most of this cannot be read by the English reader, or not this English reader anyway.

When Logos has done indexing, the story will be told as to whether this has been removed. Would it be wise to call Logos to have them remove this totally, in the sense that if one ever needs to download Logos again, one would not want this to be downloaded with the regular program, correct? Or does hiding / removing this thing completely remove it from ones' records.

Ok, apparently this "Perseus" has been removed from my system. I did notice the following taken from the page "hiding books" ... "to remove the entries from your index you can use the command rebuild index, but this will take several hours to complete."

I did notice that after "Perseus" was removed, the Library was being indexed. Would this mean then, that I should still rebuild the Index?

Resources which are hidden are not downloaded for new installs.

You are still entitled to them and you can "unhide them" as you wish which will result in them being downloaded again.

I think - but am not sure - that after this indexing the Perseus entries will still be in your index but hidden and won't appear in any searches.

Thank you Graham! I notice that the Perseus is not found in my Library but when I closed down Logos and restarted it again, it told me that Perseus was one of those lovelies that had been updated (I take it installed) on my system. I hit the Control / F5 and it brought up a new start page in Logos, but which looked like an older one that was there a few days ago which of course does not have Perseus.

Also, do you think I have to rebuild the index since it did tell me that it was indexing when I initially hid / removed Perseus? I see you mention they are still in my index ... does this not mean they are still on my system somewhere or are they actually and totally removed?

The resources themselves are totally removed from your system. The index entries are - by default - left but not used and Bradley's post referenced above explains the reasons behind this.

For others reading this thread - just a reminder that while we can now "hide" multiple resources at once we can only "unhide" one at a time.

So it's easy to remove a lot of resources, more time-consuming to get them back

you might want to remove them using collections or if you really want rid for now hide them, as we all hate to think it, should you need them in the distant future, they may not be free to re-acquire licence for them.. we hope they always will be, but there are no guarantees..

Well, for anyone wanting to begin taking advantage of Logos new morph'ing of the latin resources, you might want to be a bit patient.

I'm SUPER hoping Logos 'opens up' latin, as now greek and hebrew (eg searches, BWS, etc). Just because Jerome was short sighted, choosing hebrew over latin, doesn't mean all those early latin OT/NT manuscripts should not merit review, comparison, etc

This conversation is getting more interesting as it goes. From my stance, Perseus is something that is totally not helpful to me. If I had had an inkling that this was something written in a language that I do not nor shall not know, I would not have downloaded a 600 mb program to begin with.

For those who can read it, more power to you. For me, it's not going to happen.
