This is a new one I found in Vyrso: Getting to No: How to Break a Stubborn Habit
I can't promise that I'll be posting every single "new freebie" from Vyrso, but if I come across one I'll do my best to post it. This one looks very practical.
Blessings!

Thanks [Y]
Cool. I wonder if will help me with my bad habit of clicking "Quick Buy" on every pre-pub I see. [:)]

I know of some contentious forum posters who should read it every day for the next six months, or until they are not as contentious. [:)]

Do you mean that they should read the book instead of logging on to this wonderful forum?
"ad hominem"
Think I'll go read a book.

David, you get a B+. They can logon to the forums, as long as they do not post ......
Dear Forum Community,
Once again, it seems to me that there is an asymmetrical perception regarding the infraction of forum rules.
Now, see, if I (or others I won't mention because they prolly don't want t to be associated with me, lol [:D]) were to have said something like what Mr. Williams or Mr. Ames said in this thread, but from a different perspective or along different lines, I'd be accused, probably by Lee or someone, of being "rude" or "offensive" or "intolerant" or "impolite" or whatever.
Or, say, if I were to respond with something about how some people on this forum need to break the habit of passive aggressive posts, or something along those lines, I would be the one excoriated, even though it's no different from what they are doing.
Moreover, the post censuring people for contentious posts is itself contentious. Again, ironic self-awareness seems lacking.
Anyway, just wanted to point that out.
Mr. Ames said in this thread
Was I being used as an example or did I say something that upset you?
I have said things but I have never meant to intentionally upset anyone.
Dear Butters! David and Lynden -- who are friends -- both with a long, long record of positive contributions to these forums were just playfully "funning"!!!
If you ascribe anything more than that to their motivation, I would surely think that you err.
Edit: I think I will add to my post that I have a heavy heart at some of the "sniping" I've seen on these forums the last couple of days; and I pledge to you and to all that I myself will certainly do more listening -- a lot more listening -- before speaking!
I think that would please my Gracious and Loving God! *smile*

Mr. Williams' post is unambiguously ad hominem; if you were not agreeing with him in your post, then I am very sorry for having cobbled the two of you together.
To be perfectly forthright, I actually don't mind Mr. Williams post; it doesn't bother me in the least. Nor did I ever think it was about me particularly.
However, what I do mind is what I have said above: the asymmetrical perception regarding the infraction of forum rules. If I were to have written a similar post - though along different lines and from a different perspective - it would have been immediately called out.
Peace to you.

Well, think of it Mr. Murray: in that other interminable thread, plenty of people were being "playfully being funny" and were excoriated for doing so; told that they were "sick" and "pitiable" - funny how you extend such generous understanding towards Mr. Ames and Mr. Williams, but not those folks. Care to explain why, eh?
Whether or not Mr. Ames and Mr. Williams are friends or not is kind of irrelevant.
Edit: and incidentally, it's perfectly possible that one can be "playfully funny" and obnoxiously condescending at the same time.
This may well be my last post here; there is a group think at work here on this forum that I find very unhealthy; and not to mention creepy.

Frankly, I wouldn't know for sure and really am quite ignorant of why Matthew said he would read a book! If I am reading between the lines correctly, I hear him saying that he is sick and tired of contentiousness - even that caused by himself ....
I hope so .. These Logos Forums have been important to me and lots of others .... I will do what I can to make them even better, a model for others ........ Am still surprised that since these forums are about Bible Software -- and that we profess to be users of the Bible -- that it wouldn't be easier for us than other groups .........
... am reminded of one of my professors at Seminary in the late 50's sharing that the devils were 10 deep around the seminaries because any harm they inflicted there would be felt throughout God's Church ....... I think Satan would love to see these forums fail ...
You are a credit to these forums, and whatever sphere you participate in, Milford Charles Murray.
