Requesting user feedback: Send to Kindle feature

Development is considering implementing a 'Send to Kindle' feature for resources in your Logos library.

Before investing a significant amount of time on this item, we would like to assess user interest based on the fact that this feature would not support sending notes/highlights to or receiving notes/highlights from Kindle devices/apps (which is mentioned in the UserVoice request for this item).

Please let us know if you would still be interested in seeing this feature.

Definitely interested! This would be great. I've been debating getting a tablet of some kind to be able to read books on, but haven't because of price, preference to laptops for portable computer use, not wanting a nice tablet just for reading, etc. I would probably purchase a cheap kindle paperwhite just for reading if you created this feature. That way I could read on a tablet-like device and leave computing to a real computer.

Do you know that you can already read your Logos books on the Kindle? You just have to export them out of Logos into a text file and then load the text file onto your Kindle (not as nice as a "send to Kindle feature," but it just takes a few minutes to export a book.) If I understand what Logos is propossing, this feature wouldn't make reading on the Kindle possible, it would make it easier by automating the process of exporting the book onto your device. So if you are wanting to read on an e-ink, you don't have to wait for this feature.

That would be good news then. I still have to buy a kindle though, lol. And, as I think about it, it might be worth the wait until this feature is added anyway. The desire is that one could read Logos books on kindle without much trouble and in an economical way. Spending a lot of time and effort converting books just to be able to read them on a kindle defeats both of those purposes.

Apologies if someone already posted this and I missed it, but there is a guide on the Wiki on how to export a Logos book to Kindle format and maintain footnotes, section makers, and the table of contents. Obviously native support would be easier, but this is the best workaround I've found for now. Here's the link:

If you do buy a Kindle Fire as this feature is already present for that version. You can select the Kindle Fire just as you can an iPhone or iPad. The only difference is that you will need to reboot the Kindle Fire for the books to load there.

After some consideration I don't support/want the idea of Send to Kindle.

I think the Barnes n' Noble Nook HD 16 GB (or 8 GB if You have a small library on it) is a much better option. It costs a little more but has equally good battery life and more Logos functionality. Additionally the advantage of not supporting Logos's biggest competitor!

There's discussion going on right now in: Logos for Nook HD and HD+; It works!!. The news consists of that Barnes n' Noble has recently enabled installation of Logos on Nook, and someone tested it and it works very well!

So IMO Logos could save all the programming effort! Are You with me?

This feature would be huge.

While it is currently possible to do this, the process is hugely time consuming. This also applies to books that I purchase on Vyrso.

Reading on an iPad or computer screen is too hard on the eyes to read for any extended length of time, so the Kindle is my reader of choice.

This isn't currently in beta, and up to this point, Logos is just feeling out interest. They haven't committed to actually doing it.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned… Logos may need to get publisher permission first, and they generally don't ever talk about those sort of things.

It really isn't possible and it won't happen.

It probably won't happen, but it is very possible. When you make a highlight on the kindle it clips the highlighted text and places it in a note file. Logos could give you the option to upload your clippings file from your Kindle and a search could identify all of the text in your clippings file and then highlight them in your Logos resource.

Logos works for me in three sets.

1. Research. That's where I use the Macbook. Not much could be better there.

2. Preaching. Here's where I use the Logos app on my tablet. The notes support is getting better but would love to see some additions here.

3. Reading. There are thousands of books in my Logos library and sometimes I just want to read them - not in that research kind of way. For this I use my tablet too. But - DUDE - I'd love to be able to read books on just a plain old e-ink screen. Hurry up with this, please.

I would love to see better search capability in Notes. Just to be able to do a search in "My Content" and have it list results with links, or highlight within the Notes, exact places where matches occur would be great. Add Bible verse searching like <~John 3:1-18>. That addition would make my Notes so much more useful.

There are some Logos books that are not available on the iPad / iPhone. Could the "send to Kindle" feature become a way of reading these books on a mobile device through a mobile device, such as a Kindle or a Kindle app on an iPad? As far as I can see, there hasn't been a peep from Logos on this topic since Tonya asked for customer feedback on May 10. Is there a comment in there somewhere that I'm missing? If not, then it's been over 16 weeks and going on 300 customer comments without any kind of response from Logos.

Yep. It's getting REALLY tiresome reading Bible-related books on my PaperWhite.

Believe it or not, I now own 4 separate copies of NET w/notes. But going back and forth is a pain.

Maybe someone could write software that connected Bible-related books directly to your Bible. Then just click on the text reference without exiting the book, going to the Bible, finding the reference, exiting the Bible, returning to the other book. I'll make a UserVoice suggestion.

I am sure that it has been discussed that it is possible to send to your kindle currently but it is a real pain to do. I don't read books on my ipad/iphone.computer as it is just too hard on the eyes to do for long periods of time. That is the biggest plus of the kindle

Considering an option, and implementing it, are two different beasts. This could happen in two months, two years, or never.

Sleiman, true, I'm pretty bad! But ironically the PageWhite induces me to study the discussion points more closely. So, the next problem is needing a Bible, etc

I don't know if this is true of tablets; we have a loose Nexus 7, but it's not nearly as convenient. In the dentist office, the dental assistant was helping me read, the clarity at wide angle views are so good. (Had to hold off finishing up the racy novel; didn't want her to be distracted.)

This is one of the more exciting feature ideas in a while. I would purchase a Kindle specifically for this feature if it is implemented. Not too worried about sending notes/highlights back and forth.

Yes please! I much prefer reading on my kindle to reading on an lcd screen, and this would make my library much more accessible to me. I sometimes buy books that I plan to read cover to cover rather than as a reference on amazon rather than logos because of this preference. Having an export to kindle feature would be more incentive to stick with buying resources from logos. While it would be nice to have notes/highlighting synced across both, that's understandable. I'm still very much interested in this feature without the notes/highlighting carry over.

I agree, sometimes I just want to read, and I HATE reading on my laptop for long periods of time. Too much eye strain. My Kindle is perfect for that. That being said, I know that I can do that via export to Word but like you said, it would be nice to be able to do the entire resource.

There's a big diffirence between reading for research and reading for pure enjoyment. The Logos desktop application is great for the former but nothing beats Kindle E Ink Readers when it comes to the latter. Hoping to see this feature in the near future!

I wonder however, why do you use Calibre for creating a ToC. You can quit easily do that in Word itself. Are you aware of this feature in Word? And if you are, is there any reason why you prefer to use Calibre?

So far, the guide posted last year by Fr Devin Roza is the best method I've found for exporting my Logos books to Kindle. It's somewhat time-consuming, but the final product is quite good. Footnotes are fully function, as is the ToC.

I would love for Logos to integrate this functionality into the software though. It would make things a lot faster and easier.

Unfortunately, when using the export function, it only allows you to export a max of 100 pages, so for exporting a whole book it's not the best method.

So Logos, please insert the new function.

This isn't about the Kindle fire, it is about the "regular" kindle. Highlighting would be limited to the very limited underlining capabilities of the Kindle.

The difference is that you can run the Logos Android app on the Kindle Fire but not on the standard Kindle e-readers.

The major theme of this thread is about the interest in having Logos resources made available to the Kindle e-reader platform outside the use of the Logos apps

I would love to have this feature available. I love all the great study features logos offers through tablets, phones, and my mac, but sometimes when I just want to sit and read, e-ink is the way to go. I can really immerse myself in a book without eyestrain.

3. Real Page Numbers -- since the kindle supports this feature, it would be very very nice.

4. Be absolutely certain that the text is fully justified (or have it as an option)

Further Thoughts:

1. This would give you a massive advantage over all your competitors -- it would also get people to pay a premium to buy books from logos, since they would have it on their computers as well as on their kindles. With the computer for searching/studying and the kindle for reading, there would be little point in buying it in any other format

2. This would make all the difference in the world to me. Right now it is a very frustrating process to convert books for the kindle. If you could make this easy I would love logos forever

Hey Peter,

I think the answer here is an eink that smoothly runs a higher version of android. That way we can just install Logos or Vyrso and be done with it. There are some threads about this here and it sounds like these types of devices are coming down the pike.

I do agree with you that that would be the ideal solution -- Ive also posted on the forums of some of the devices that are "in the pike" to see if they would make sure they support running logos. Unfortunately, I've seen more than one such device fall by the wayside before reaching production in the past several years. So I keep hoping for one or the other. Praying for you all in Greenpoint.

I may have missed it, but I would welcome this especially if it allowed me to just "export in kindle format" and not necessarily require me plugging my kindle in. I can email books to my kindle.

I use the kindle reader on my iPad and on my desktop frequently and I'd love to be able to read there. My old iPad is really slow when running the verbum app and I'd love to be able to use the kindle reader on it instead when I'm simply reading through something like a Robert E. Brown text.

Although this feature would be very nice (I hope it comes!), I wanted to point out that you can already export to Kindle. Mark Barnes wrote an excellent guide found HERE.

Amazon has "print to kindle" function that can be used to export to kindle rather conveniently.

The installation file for PC is here http://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle/pc

For Macs http://www.amazon.com/gp/sendtokindle/mac

Although the printer appears in the list from the print/export dialog in Logos, I was not able to send directly to kindle from there. What worked for me was the 2 steps method: (1) From the Logos print/export pane: save as file (doc, docx and rtf are supported). (2) Right click on the saved file and click on "send to kindle". In the dialog that appears, pick the device where you want it sent (if you have more than one). Done.

Obviously this works too for other documents on the pc/mac (unconverted pbb files).

I have not had the chance to test extensively. If someone finds a way to print directly from the Logos print/export, I'm sure many would like to know.

There is a FORUM for beta users. The beta is open to the public... but note: Beta testing isnt for users who want the newest features first. It is for people who want to help out and provide feedback. It means having your computer crash at times. It means having to reinstall at times. You should not beta test on your only installation... especially if you depend upon it for work.

Yes. Being able to read Logos eBooks on my Kindle Paperwhite would be fantastic. Can't happen soon enough. The inability to send/receive notes/highlights between Logos/Kindle is a non issue for me.
