Hi,

I am planning to buy a  bronze or silver package of the logos 5 to download onto my Macbook Air. However,I am hoping to buy a mac desktop in couple of months time. Will it be possible for me to download Logos 5 and use it on my desktop as well?

Also, I have a bit of constraint on budget. Hence, I was wondering whether the bronze package would be enough for me to perform basic word/clause/phrase searches, greek and hebrew meanings of the words and where all they are found in the scriptures.

Thanks in advance for the help.

God Bless,

Hansel

    Hi, Hansel, and welcome!

Yes, you will. As long as it's for your personal use, you can download onto all your devices.

Also, I have a bit of constraint on budget. Hence, I was wondering whether the bronze package would be enough for me to perform basic word/clause/phrase searches, greek and hebrew meanings of the words and where all they are found in the scriptures.

Bronze will be good enough for this, I think, although Logos' Clause Search tool isn't included in Bronze. But Bronze has the reverse interlinears and some good starter lexicons that will give you the meanings of Greek and Hebrew words. Word/Phrase search is a standard Logos feature.

    I wrote a buyer's guide to Logos 5, which may help: http://www.logosbiblesoftwaretraining.com/documents/logos-5-buyers-guide/

You can always upgrade later, once you're progressing in your studies, and have saved up some more money. The cost to upgrade will be slightly more than the difference in price between Bronze and Silver.

Hi Hansel - and welcome to the forums

Will it be possible for me to download Logos 5 and use it on my desktop as well?

Yes - you can use the software and access your resources on as many machines as you have for your personal use. Logos licensing is on a per-user basis not a per-machine basis.

You might find the information at http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_Multiple_Macs useful when getting your Mac desktop up and running.

Hence, I was wondering whether the bronze package would be enough for me to perform basic word/clause/phrase searches, greek and hebrew meanings of the words and where all they are found in the scriptures.

Yes, you will be able to do these things apart from the "Clause Search" assuming you are using the term in the sense that Logos does - example below:

http://wiki.logos.com/Upgrade_or_Crossgrade shows you what you get with various options.

If the "Clause Search" functionality is important to you, a cheaper option is probably going with Bronze and the Minimal Crossgrade (https://www.logos.com/product/28376/logos-5-minimal-crossgrade)

    Hope this helps, Graham

Note that the MC has dynamic pricing, so once you own Bronze, the price for the MC will go down drastically.

Asking us if a given package has enough books, is like asking Rockefeller(?) if he has enough money. His answer (if I am remember who it was correctly) is likely to be the same as ours - we just need a few more books.

The more books the more powerful Logos becomes. Suggest you check bronze for the titles you are most excited about, and tally up the cost of them individually. IF that cost exceeds the cost of bronze (likely will) then buy bronze, if not, consider consider buying only those resources you are most excited about building your library based upon the things you will need most.

    Good luck!

  • Thank you Mark for the valuable suggestion. I have just Purchased the Bronze package last night. Quite excited about it! However, only 1% of 5.08 GB has been downloaded since last night. My internet connectivity seems to be fine as well. I don't know what to do?

    Hi Hansel

If you are still stuck in the download I would suggest stopping Logos and starting again and let us know what happens.

A realistic download time for 5GB might be one hour (assuming a 15MBs connection). After the download, indexing then needs to take place, which would take several more hours. But there have been no reported problems with Logos's download servers over the last 24 hours. so if it's stuck downloading, and restarting your Mac doesn't fix it, then I suggest starting a new thread describing the problem, so that Mac experts on the forum can help.

You will likely outgrow whatever package you purchase. Nothing wrong with that, just the nature of how Logos works and how you use it. The idea of Logos is based on having your library electronically accessible. You don't really outgrow Logos, you just add what you need.

hmmmm, I have never outgrew my base package.  I did what Tim stated in his article (http://www.challies.com/articles/is-it-time-to-move-to-logos), purchased just what I knew that would be using.  I did not upgrade when L4 came out and I did not upgrade with L5 came out.  What I have works for me.

I went with a bit wider approach. As a student it seems prudent to me to cherry pick people from multiple sides of issues. Certainly professors appreciate nuances that come from having read broadly.

I have L2 lvl 2, Series X Scholars, Some L3 titles, L4 Scholars and L5 Platinum. Along with bunches of things from Prepub and scores from community pricing. Not to mention all of the galaxie journal collections, themelios, and some of the other journals that are not offered by galaxie.

Certainly the pre-pub and cc purchases have been targeted to areas of interest, and other purchases have been made to under-gird specific assignments should a primary source not already be in my library. Some purchases have been made surrounding a particular sermon that I was working on - EEC on james for instance.

Any way, I doubt my library will ever be complete, not until I cease learning - which likely means I've ceased breathing as well.
