VMware ThinApp Issue Logos 5

Good afternoon.

I am trying to ThinApp Logos 5 to work in a virtualized Windows 7 environment. For those not familiar with ThinApp, it essentially allows you to take a windows application and sandbox it for broadcast to virtual copies of Windows. With ThinApp, I'll be able to broadcast this program to the 20 people who are going to be buying future copies.

I am able to ThinApp the program fine. However, on the original install of the program, it requests a login/password. When I login with my personal credentials, it adds all of my books, etc. Unfortunately all of that is being captured in the sandbox, and it's causing problems when others login. It is also adding about 1GB of bloat to the ThinApp.

Essentially, I'm looking for a list of files/folders that identify this program to me. What I want is for the user to login with their credentials, and then for the program to install all the personal information as if it were a clean install.

From browsing the forums, I've found the following identifiers:

\Logos5\Data\<databasename>\LibraryIndex

\Logos5\Data\<databasename>\LibraryCatalog\catalog.db

\Logos5\Data\<databasename>\PersonalBookIndex

\Logos5\Data\<databasename>\LayoutManager/layouts.db

If I delete these, will they rebuild? Are there others? Has anyone else successfully virtualized this program?

Ultimately, if I can't get it to work, we're going to have to go with a competitor, something none of us really want to do.

PS. I tried calling Logos tech support regarding this issue, but I was referred to these forums as she was not aware that windows virtualization even exists.

Try a Custom install and uncheck the box about downloading updates. The exit the sign-in window when installation completes.

I am unsure what you are trying to do... Or why? What is the purpose of what you are doing? Logos is intended for one user... Not 20. Why arent the other users installing the software themselves?

I work for a large Christian university where we use VMware View to take one copy of Windows (gold) which is then cloned out to multiple users across campus. Essentially these are normal copies of Windows as far as the user is concerned. The users are free to install or add stuff as they please, with one caveat. Every 2-3 months, we perform an update called a recompose, which essentially gives the user a clean copy of Windows and allows me to push out any updates. Unfortunately, whenever this occurs, any programs installed by the user disappear. Because of this, having the user install it themselves is not really possible, as all settings would disappear upon recompose.

To avoid this, I have two options: install the program on the gold or push it out with ThinApp. In order to avoid gold bloat, installing it on the gold is not an option. As a side note, it does not appear to be possible to install it on the gold, even if I wanted to, based upon the design of the program's install process, but I digress.

In this case, my only option is to use ThinApp to provide the program to the 20 individuals who will purchase 20 individual licenses in the future.

I understand it to be a portable executable that has no value unless each user has a Logos account. It runs as a standard user the same way that Logos is designed and I think it virtualises system files such as Fonts which Prerequisites updates with Admin privilege.

Hey Dave,

It doesn't appear that the Logos 5 downloader that I got directly from the website this morning has an option for work offline. When I install it, I do have the option to install without updating, but at no point do I see a work offline option on the sign in screen.

Maybe I'm missing something?

You have to hold the CTRL key when you start Logos in an online environment. If no internet connection is detected then it will automatically load with that option.
