BUG - ESV lookup gives me English Definition
After the last update the ESV RI is not allowing me to see the original language definition and ability to perform a Bible Word Study, but instead just the English definition from iPad's dictionary. I tried the LEB with the same result. The ESV is downloaded on my iPad. Please advise. I have a 1st Gen iPad.

Hi John
I am seeing the same thing - I am getting the same results as I would when offline.
However, I don't think this is particularly related to the update to 3.5.0 (I still have a Verbum app running 3.4.x software and get the same there)
I suspect that there is a issue with the Logos servers which support these lookups not being available in some way and - hopefully - Logos will get them working again soon (though it is night-time there at the moment!)

FYI the NASB 95 still brings up the original language. I hope that is what it is as this diminishes the apps usefulness significantly. Thanks for the confirmation.

Fascinating! I can confirm this but can't explain it!

I think it must be this - though - as it was working yesterday as per http://community.logos.com/forums/p/76259/533532.aspx#533532

I am seeing the same thing. "Lookup" on words in ESV skips the expected morphology popup, as if my iPad were offline. Also curious is the fact that I then get a "No definition found" popup for every word I try to look up. NASB is working as expected. Before I saw that, I thought perhaps the Logos servers were down.
- iPad 4, 128GB, wifi
- iOS 7.0.2
- Logos Bible app 3.5.0I have killed and restarted the app (requires a new procedure in iOS7). I've also removed the ESV and re-downloaded it, and it still behaves the same way.
This needs corrected ASAP.

I found that - post iOS 7 or Bible 3.5.0 upgrade - I need to respecify the dictionary for offline use. Press "Manage" in the bottom-left of the popup and select the dictionaries you want and see if that gets you to a usable English definition.

I'm still hoping - and expecting - that there is a server issue here (though nuanced in some way to explain how NASB is still working[:)])

Do we know if anyone at Logos is aware of this problem?
Thanks for the tip on managing the dictionaries. I'm getting definitions now. Curiously, the "Done" button in the upper right of that popup does not dismiss the popup for me.

The LEB is also not working (the OT only in interlinear). I checked the NIV (New Testament only in interlinear), KJV, NRSV, and NLT and they all work as they should.
So the ESV and LEB OT need to be fixed.

I see the same thing - not sure if it is an app or iOS issue

I have just emailed someone and asked him to look into it

Given the resources affected, I wonder if it could be related to resource updates for smart selection:

If you are getting no definition at all, follow Look up > Manage, then choose which dictionary to download. This presumably changed with the latest iOS app update.
This doesn't give you the reverse interlinear information though.

That's a very interesting suggestion. I hadn't thought of that[:)]

It is just LEB and ESV, so could be related to the smart selection update. However that update I think was for beta testers only. Anyway, Logos needs to review the matter and provide suggestions.

We discovered this issue yesterday evening and are still working on a fix. Thanks for your patience. Edit: I should also mention this issue occurs with our Android apps as well (which is where I discovered it) and thus appears to be a server-side issue, not an app version issue.

This issue should be resolved by tomorrow morning; certain resources need to be rebuilt and republished. Thanks everyone for your patience!
