Scrolling with 1 finger?

Congrats on the new redesign. The new scrolling with two fingers is fantastic. I'm especially impressed at how well it works with footnotes displayed on the screen.

With the new redesign, however, I can't quite understand why Logos requires two fingers to scroll instead of just one. With the previous v2 app design it seemed to me that it made sense (on the iOS app) in order to avoid confusion with the swipe up and down motion. But now that the swipe up and down motion have thankfully been removed, I am inclined to think that there is no good reason to require two fingers to scroll.

A fantastic example of how this single finger scrolling is implemented in an app design almost identical to the new Logos Android v4 is Moon+ Reader. Like Logos v4 it has the option to do a single tap on the right or left side to swipe pages, a single tap in the middle to display top and bottom menus, and scrolling with 1 finger doesn't seem to cause any interference or difficulties.

I really like this 2 finger scrolling feature, it's great. I agree about using 1 finger for this.

How about 2 finger scrolling for jumping chapters (left/right) and books of the bible (up/down)?

For dictionaries, for jumping to the previous/next letter.

Yes, one finger is better. Honestly with two its to cumbersome to use. I'm still tapping the side of my tablet because its easier.

Books are still designed to be read by swiping left/right. The two finger scroll gesture was added to adjust the displayed text. Specifically for when you need to select a section of text that may be broken up by a page break.

That's kind of disappointing. Is one finger scrolling in the works or does it conflict with something else in the app? I like the reasoning behind the scrolling, Gabe, particularly because this happens to me too often. But it seems like you guys could have gone one more step.

IMO, the only thing I was waiting on in the new app was "one finger" scrolling. It would sure make reading much more pleasurable. Which is what 90% of my mobile use is for.

The gesture itself is not a problem -- it's all about how the display of the book itself scrolls. The scrolling we just released is very different from the way continuous vertical scrolling would be implemented, which is why hooked it up to two fingers rather than one. Like Gabe said, it's not intended as a good continuous vertical "reading" experience, and certainly doesn't work well enough in that scenario for us to advertise it as such in good conscience.

We do plan on adding a continuous vertical scrolling feature in the future, but we can't provide a timeframe at the moment.

I like the implementation of the scrolling, but one finger would be nice. It would enable me to use just one hand while reading vice needing to use the other hand to do the scrolling. While taking notes during sermons, one hand has my phone and the other my pen (yes, I still use pen and paper to take notes). I'd like to be able to scroll with the hand holding my phone to adjust the text displayed. Minor gripe for a HUGE improvement.

Horizontal 1 finger scrolling is still working as previous versions, that's ok.

For a quick fix, how about having the option for vertical paging (e.g. as in Flipboard app on smartphones)? A lot of apps on the smartphone works with one finger (or thumb) moving vertically. Logos is the only app where I have to consciously remind myself to move my finger horizontally instead of vertically.

In case you did not know...

Within a book from the view menu (Aa) you can now turn on "Scrolling View" which seems smoother than the two finger scrolling and can be done with a single finger. This view turns off flipping of pages.
