Morning All,
I've just installed the windows 8.1 update and Logos won't run, even in compatibility mode. Looking forward to an early fix as I've got two sermons to prepare!
Anyone found a work around (appreciating it's early days yet).
Thanks,
AndyG
I'm running Windows 8.1 without problems. But to diagnose your issue, we need to see logs. Please see How to Ask for Help.
I've just installed the windows 8.1 update and Logos won't run
Hi Andy. Like Mark, I have Logos 5 running under Windows 8.1 (64-bit), so something else must be happening on your system.
I'll take a look when I get home but it just wouldn't run this morning and I'd only installed the 8.1 update... I've tried a reinstall but it just said that Logos was up to date, so as you say, something else must be happening but not sure what. I'll post the logs once I've got them.
Thanks for the advice and help,
Andy and Mark,
Are you on 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 8.1?
Peter
64-bit.
64-bit
I'm also having problems with Windows 8.1 64-bit. Logos runs, but the window's borders and sizing are messed up. The program and panels do not resize to fit the window Windows creates. And sometimes a panel that was temporarily out of the visible window area never recovers, so part of the panel is permanently white. It seems to work sometimes until you resize the program too quickly, then once it's out of sync it won't recover. If just a panel is bad, undocking it and redocking it might fix it temporarily. If the whole program is sized incorrectly, undocking a panel sometimes seems to fix it, but when you redock, the program crashes.
Has anyone successfully upgraded to Win 8.1 32-bit and have Logos 5 running correctly?
Guys,
At this stage with Win 8.1 barely launched you should contact Logos Tech Support.
We have upgraded multiple computers to Windows 8.1 (all 64-bit AFAIK) and have not seen any problems with Logos 5 so far.
It's possible that Windows 8.1 even fixes a "Read Aloud" hang: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/74365/535935.aspx#535935

This sounds like it could be a video driver issue; I would recommend checking to see if updated drivers for your video card are available.
when you redock, the program crashes.
Does it create logs when it crashes? If so, please attach them here for analysis.
If not, you will need to contact Tech Support for assistance in creating a crash dump that we can analyse.
Here is the log file. There are no updated video drivers available for my computer.3404.Logos Log Files.zip
This appears to be the problem:
[quote]2013-10-18 21:35:37.9836 1 Error OurApp Unhandled exception: System.ArgumentException: Specified Visual is already a child of another Visual or the root of a CompositionTarget. at System.Windows.Media.VisualCollection.Insert(Int32 index, Visual visual)
Unfortunately, I don't know what it means. [:S]
Have you tried loading a blank layout? Press and hold control when starting up Logos. Check the appropriate box.
Hi Folks,
Just went for a reinstall (the joy of insomnia) and it's all working now. Must have been a corruption somewhere preventing startup.
Thanks for the help,

Great news, Andy.
Pleased to know it's all go now.

Phil,
Turning off visual bookmarks may prevent the crash for the time being: http://wiki.logos.com/Visual_Bookmarks
But it does look like something is wrong with your system, rather than just with Logos. It's possible your video card isn't fully compatible with Windows 8.1.
You could also try running the .NET framework repair tool: http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=30135, although I'm not sure how successful that will be on Windows 8.
The computer is just a couple months old, an HP purchased with Windows 8. It should be compatible with 8.1.
Visual bookmarks were already off.
The .NET solution didn't change anything.
The resizing issue seems inconsistent. I now really have to try to break it before it shows up. It may have to do with how busy the computer is at the time. (And just docking the program full screen by moving it to the top edge temporarily fixes it, which it didn't do originally. Docking the program half-screen does not fix it. That was what originally triggered: I often use Logos half screen so I can have a word processor on the other half).
Opening Logos to a blank window, I can not duplicate the problem. The issue seems to be that Logos can't keep up with sizing changes, and once it falls behind, it loses sync. With a blank display, I can't resize it faster than it can handle.
But it turns out the docking issue is separate. Undocking and redocking any panel crashes the program, without any sizing changes (which is unfortunate, because I use that feature a lot).
One more note. The docking issue also seems to be tied to how burdened the system is. It doesn't crash unless I have a lot of resources open, and probably something else slowing it down at the same time.
Alabama24, there it is ....Windows 8.1 is a a PROBLEM CHILD. I see it clearly in the error.
Jokes aside, I hope it gets better. I am surprised it even runs on 64. I keep waiting and waiting for all the bugs to be worked out.
Jesus may come back first before Logos works on a Tablet we can all afford and utilize full functionality of the entire part of Logos.
I am always mystified why they insist at Logos at making it all JUST a reader on Android...go figure.
Hi Josh
I don't understand this comment. I - and others as reported in this thread - are running Windows 8.1 and Logos without any issues.
Clearly there are some specific issues which need to be addressed but it's not a general issue with 8.1
