processors vs cores

What is better for the speed and smoothness of Logos, a higher processor speed or more cores?

When people refer to the Logos "code" and "user interface" what does that mean?

How does a mac's turbo boost play into the speed and smoothness of Logos?

Thanks, Austin

Austin, in my experience on a PC and a Windows laptop I can say that rarely does Logos use all eight threads of the quad core processors I have in each. Likewise Logos rarely maxes out the processor speed, calling for turbo boost. The rare time is indexing, when I have seen it use most of the processor and require turbo boosting.

An i5 processor with four threads and clocked at 2.0 GHz probably would only bog down a bit during indexing. Be sure to have more than 4 GB of RAM, however, as I routinely use more than 4, though not more than 6 (I have 8).

So, would you go with a higher processor speed (GHz) or more cores?

    Both. [:D]

No less than two cores and as much speed as you can then afford. It really isn't that critical after a certain point. I get very good performance from my laptop i7 quad core processor that runs at 2.0 GHz with boost to 2.9 GHz. A hybrid HD or a SSD will probably make more of a difference in your routine performance than going from 2 to 3 GHz in processor speed. (So say those who have one.) BTW don't settle for a HD that runs at less than 7200 RPM.

lame lol if you had to pick one to with for running Logos faster and smoother, which would you pick?

Here are my options.. both with a SSD:

Duel Core i7 2.8GHz with 3.3Ghz Turbo Boost

Quad Core i7 2.6GHz with 3.8Ghz Turbo Boost

Which is better for running Logos better?

    Austin,

The following should do the job. I have the lesser and it is lightning fast.

    3.2GHz

3.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz) with 6MB L3 cache

    3.4GHz

3.4GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor (Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz) with 6MB L3 cache

Configurable to 3.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 (Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz

Also get at least 16 GB of RAM. BTW these are for the iMac 2013

We have Logos 5 and never have any fan noise or any slowing.

    Good luck

Which highway do you think has less chance of traffic with the same amount of cars?

    • 2 lanes with speed limit 70
    • 4 lanes with speed limit 65

hope this helps in choosing the right processor

PS: with 4 lanes you could actually add more cars without reducing the speed

the 4 lanes seems like it would be faster, but does logos work with 4 lanes or just 1?
