Your Roman Missal collection could be vastly improved

When it comes to the Roman Missal, propers and readings really need to be in the same place. Having the two separated as with the liturgical books is too artificial for actual use --- it would be a lot better to place the Introit, the Collect, the Reading, &c. in that order, as in every Daily Missal ever. Magnificat does this, too.

I have a 1962 English-Latin Missal --- a few of them, now that I think about it --- but it would be so convenient to see the translation so near the actual text.

I have several other suggestions regarding the collection of Roman Missals:

1. Can there be older versions of the Roman Missal available, also?
2. Can there be missals of other Rites available? Dominican, &c.?
3. Also, for things free online, this really is very pricey. If there were more content, though, I would not hesitate so much.
4. Why not simply provide a Daily Missal, as does basically every print publisher? Why keep the missals and the lectionaries separate?
5. What about using the Corpus Christi Watershed missals? Beautiful line art, for what it's worth.

Welcome to the forums Benjamin! I'll try to address a couple of your questions, if I misunderstood please accept my apology, and feel free to clarify or ask another question!

The Roman Missal that Logos sells, Third Typical Edition, is organized exactly the same way the print version is. The word missal can be misleading, it means one thing to clergy and it means another to the congregation. This Missal has much more in it than any daily missal used in the pews at Mass, with all the votive Masses, rubrics, Propers of special Masses, etc. in it. Logos has produced an electronic equivalent of a specific printed book. Given this fact, the current price Logos has for the Roman Missal, $69.95, is really very good, as the printed version of the book is anywhere from $80 - $400, generally, based on material quality and size of the book itself.

To answer one of your other questions, there are other Missals, again these are books used by clergy in the celebration of the Mass. But they are:

Missale Romanum (1962)

Missale Romanum, Editio Typica Tertia

Both are in Latin, the second is the same as the English Missal I cited above, and is the current Missal used at Mass.

Your suggestion for Logos to publish a true Daily Missal like St. Joseph's, Magnificat, etc. is a good one though! Logos will either need to enter into agreement with one of these publishers, or they could produce their own; but the specific translation of the text used at Mass is licensed and cannot be used just because it's well, the Bible :-)

1. As you say, material quality --- as in, the elaborate illustrations and expensive, sturdy materials --- has a lot to do with the price of the liturgical missals. That's a cost I think we can safely skip for Logos, yes? [Y]

2. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I have a PDF of one of them available for free, as does anyone with an Internet connection. I'm not saying that the process of tagging doesn't deserve markup --- even if it's automated, and I have a feeling it's mostly automated --- but $70 for three big books, however big, without fine materials is a little wonky, especially when official copies are all free online.

3. If nothing else, basic Roman liturgical books, along with the English translation approved for use by the local bishops' conferences, really shouldn't be separate, non-package purchases. The NABRE and the Roman Missals ought to be standard with every American package of Verbum, especially the upper ones.

4. Moreover! Because the Knox isn't available yet, and I don't have RSV-2CE, the Douay is my standard "Top" Bible. Much as my inner curmudgeon smiles at switching out the New American Bible for the Douay-Rheims, it really is not appropriate liturgically. When reading the lectionary, is it possible to "lock" it into using a particular translation other than my Top Bible?
