Problem upgrading Logos 3 with Logos 4 resources

I am having a problem completing the upgrade of a Logos 3 resource. I have completed the upgrade using the script provided in the blog for all of the resources except Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary. It will go through the download for this resource up to 100% then restart the donload from the beginning. After doing this for a number of times (not sure how many, I get tired of watching it) it will error out saying it is unable to complete the update.

This happens on both my desktop and my laptop computers. The same thing happened with 1000 Bible Images and a couple of other resources several times but I was able to eventually complete the download via direct download from the Logos.com purchase area. I just downloaded into my Resource directory and Logos 3 recognized the resource since my licenses were synced and up to date. I can't use this workaround with the Holman resource because it isn't available as a single download, only as part of a package.

Has anybody else experienced this anomaly? Any suggestions? I really want this resource. I have the print version and have found it invaluable in my sermon and Bible study preparation. Having the Logos version and all of the perks that it provides would be nice.

It sounds like it is failing during some sort of checksum (checking to see if the file correctly downloaded- which it didn't).

This could point to a problem with the download script or a flaky connection (doubt that). If you can download them directly, go ahead and do that.

Make a note of each of the files which are giving you problems and list them here, that way Logos will monitor it.

As I mentioned, the Holman rescource is not available for download as a stand alone resource, or if it is I have not been able to locate it.

Have you installed Logos 4? When I read that I could dowload logos 3 compatible versons of the V4 resources, I was very quick to do as instructed (can't remember where I read how to do it, but it worked perfectly. The resources are available in both versions of Logos. I didn't have to download them individually.

The instructions are in the blog on Logos website. Good question, but yes I have Logos 4 installed on my desktop and I get the same results as on my laptop. But I don't have Logos 4 installed on my laptop. However, all of the other resources in the update installed without issue on both computers. I only had to download about four of the resources individually. And the Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary is not available as an individual download. To further muddy the waters I have WIndows 7 on my desktop and Windows XP on my leptop, so I can't even blame it on the operating system since both computers give the same results. It's hard to say what is going on But it's all a moot point now anyhow since I received the DVD with the resources for 3.0g today in the mail. Took only about 5 minutes to finish the update on both systems. I guess I should have waited for the DVD but I ordered it over a week ago and when I saw the script to download and update online I thought I'd give it a try.

All is well that ends well. The issue with the few that wouldn't dowload will have to stay a mystery I guess.

The interesting thing about the Holman Illustrated Bible Dictionary is that the v3 file on FTP site is 357 MB whilst the L4 file is 74 MB! Another invigorating stat is that 683 of my L4 Scholar's resources weigh in at 2.8 GB whilst their L3 cousins are 4 GB.

Thanks for this workaround. I have been trying to update my Logos3 Scholars Gold withLogos4 Platinum resources. Every time the first file it tried to download was the 1000 Bible Images which would download and immediately restart until finally it would error out. I'm downloading it now as you suggest. I'll keep track of other files that cause the same problem and list them here. My system is Windows 7.

I am not only having trouble with L 4.0a (it crashes every time on loading) - some problem with home page, I think. Anyway, I am so frustrated with L4's endless downloads & indexing that I have decided to go back to Logos 3.0 - only to find that the latest version (3.0f) appears to have problems too!

1. The Options - General - whar to do on start up - does not load the Workspace specified. The programme loads a workspace that I specified some time ago.

2. It keep on displaying recent pre-pubs - they used to disappear once viewed.

3. And, most importantly, there are files on my 3.0e DVD that I can access from DVD - but not from my HDD - says not available. I used location manager to copy the files to HDD but the programme insists on reading them from the DVD. I think that they are all files that became accessible when I upgraded L4 to Platinum.

Sorry to trouble you with my problems but Libronix don't answer emails any more & I just wondered if you have any thoughts.

Upgrade to 3.0g via Libronix Update or from the website at http://www.logos.com/support/download/30bupdate

I have exactly the same problem. So the only solution is to download the resources one-by-one? Surely if this is a common problem, Logos should give a better fix or work-around?

If your problem is downloading the L3 resources that you got via L4, it is not an issue that is completely within Logos' control. At least you know which ones it failed on, and the only workaround is what has been stated here:

retry the download
download from ftp://ftp.logos.com/lbxbooks/
get the DVD

Note that L3 never had a script that could detect and download missing resources.

I had that problem too (getting stuck on a specific book in the L4>L3 script). I also had the problem of the L3 library not recognizing a resource that is unlocked and on my drive in its proper location. I fooled around with the whole thing for about half a day. Never did solve the script problem and downloaded the books one by one. On the library recognizing owned books, that one was a definite surprise. On L3, two programs are running (one being the library). No amount of dinking around worked until I noticed the literal act of copying the resource into the L3 directory worked. After that I got my whole L3 back on track. Previously I had an L4 font overwrite my L3 font (destroying the table of contents on resources). So I've completely uninstalled L3 and L4, gone through the registry and cleaned all Logos/Libronix refs and then re-installed L3. I don't have any problems with L4 (nice product). So don't view this as a comment on L4. I just like to work without worrying about what was going to happen with each new update and L4 was starting to mess around with L3 on the most recent updates.

Yes that worked in L3, especially if you wanted to place a resource into a non-default folder in your Resource Path.

Previously I had an L4 font overwrite my L3 font (destroying the table of contents on resources).

Can you remember which font?

Regarding the font that overwrote L3's TOC font, I don't remember; been a few weeks. But it did result in the L3 TOCs being all extremely tiny and if I remember correctly it was an apparatus font (which was unusual). At the time, the way I could identify it was that the date-stamp was much later than the L3 load and the name used a combination of upper/lower case letters (compared to another offline L3 installation where the same font was all upper-case). I replaced it with the original L3 font from the offline computer and everything was back on-track. I doubt this answers your question, but it's the best I can remember.
