Updating - Indexing

As a client of many years - I am going to continue to respectfully ask Logos to consider their constant updating and indexing. It makes me not want to open up the program - because I know there is high percentage chance that oh guess what - - oh great another update!!!! I have even stopped using it as my primary resource and for what I paid for the program that must tell you how annoying it is on my end!

Please --- before you tell me that I can turn off this feature or just wait to update or index at a convenient time, I know these things. I also know that as a user of other high-end software programs, the manufacturer can control updates and do so on a much more periodic basis. What is so mission critical that two and sometimes 3 updates take place in a week? Could they wait the 2 or three days in between & be updated once? I don't expect an answer from Logos as I have tried making this known for the last year. Just making sure that they see there are some individuals who don't care for this frequency.

I hear what you are saying Mitch and the frustration behind it but, to give another perspective, there are others (like me) who appreciate them. I think this is perhaps for two main reasons - 1. a good internet connection and 2. a descent computer with a SSD. I have both of these and hardly ever even notice updates and indexing. I realize that not everyone has this luxury and I feel for those in this situation.

I do like your suggestion that they could wait between updates but that would mean there would be larger updates when they do happen which would make some even more frustrated.

I understand the frustration, as I don't have an SSD and sometimes the indexing seems interminable. I would also join your request to have updates released with less frequency (I'd pick once a week: Monday, 6am Bellingham time), unless an update broke something and a fix is required, then give it to me immediately. I think especially resource and dataset updates can be held for more convenient times. (I'd not expect such restrictions for the beta program.)

I've even decided not to 'buy' some free books because of the cost of indexing.

Yes this does mean that Mondays are likely to be download/index days. But I can plan ahead for those, and have full use of Logos and the rest of my machine all the time.

Of course, despite your acknowledgement of the ability to turn off automatic updating, it is a possibility that would give you control of when updating takes place. I would be more likely to use it, if I could schedule downloading and indexing at the same time.

I have begun to make more use of the ability to delay indexing for 4 hours. That way I can index during a break, or while I'm away from the computer. It's actually quite convenient (unless I need to do some searching in the resource just updated/downloaded).

Bruce, - Thanks for your reply. I do appreciate you taking the time to provide your thoughts. However if it is such an issue (as I have seen in other forums) that folks need a SSD then Logos should recommend it for their program. It still remains that I feel like I have a multi-thousand dollar anchor and am land locked. Knowing what I know now - I would have invested in another resource and add to the fact that the response from Logos on this issue is non-existence and it makes matters worse. I am a mac user and it is far easier to get a response from Apple than Logos. Again thanks for your time.

Richard thanks for responding. I do have cable internet and a fast system but do not have an SSD. I don't think I should purchase one just for this sole purpose. I understand that there are other advantages to having an SSD, but I don't need them at this time. Yours and Bruce's response have shown more customer service and reflective thoughts than I have ever received from Logos.
