iPad Notes sync problem
Hi everyone,
I use Logos on my computer usually to study with but often use my iPad to teach from. I find that the notes I create on my laptop can sometimes take days to sync to the ipad. I have searched through the other sync problem forums but nothing seems to solve this. I have tried to manually sync my laptop but it still doesn't show up on the ipad app.
Is this common or do I have something set wrong?
Is there a way to force a sync on the iPad app? I have completely closed it and opened it up again but still no change.
I am also signed in to my account but I am not signed in with facebook. Does that make a difference?

Nope.

I have found the sync to be almost instantaneous. Sometimes users have issues, but it doesn't seem to be common any more.

What do you mean by "completely?"

My syncing does eventually happen, but can take days.
By "completely" I mean I am doing more than just closing the window on the ipad. When you close an app on the ipad, it actually keeps running until you go in and close the program right down. That's all I meant by that.
I have updated to the latest on both platforms so I don't know what is happening. It has been like this for a year and I keep thinking each update will fix it. I must have some setting wrong somewhere.

Ken, have you tried deleting the iPad app and reinstalling it?

Yes I have quite a few note files and some of them are several paragraphs long. Maybe I am using notes more extensively than it is capable of doing. I used to use the old sermon filer but that has been discontinued.

Thanks Paul, I have done that a few times. Everything seems to sync up immediately when I reinstall the app. but then it slows down again. The main program on my PC seems to sync to the logos cloud fine but the app is having trouble keeping in sync with it. Is there a way to force a sync on the ipad app?

As per http://community.logos.com/forums/t/65290.aspx going to the home screen should normally trigger a sync.
But, like Alabama, I rarely see any delay in synching so I think there must be something wrong in your environment.
I would think about firewalls that might be causing a problem or an intermittent Internet connection but that isn't consistent with it being ok for a while after reinstalling the app.
Sorry, but I can't explain what is going on here.

Let's make sure we are speaking the same language.
- A note document is kind of like a folder, holding various kinds of notes including highlights. If I ever refer to a "note file," I really mean a note document.
- A note is... well, a note. It can be attached to a reference, a resource, or nothing at all. All notes (including highlights) reside with a note document.
- The largest note documents MOST users will have will probably be named "Highlighter Pens." This is because highlighting notes go into a pallet specific note document by default. Other large note documents will be named after other pallets.
I currently have 84 note documents. Most of those are resource specific note files I created to save and organize my highlights. My largest note document is 197 pages long. [To determine its size, I pretended to print the note document].
Can you determine how many note documents you have? Can you find out how many pages are in those documents? When you originally wrote that you are having troubles syncing, is it certain note documents only? Which ones? Can you create a new note document and see if there are problems syncing there?

Hi,
Thanks for continuing up on this with me. I only have 18 documents. Most of my notes are attached to Bible passages and are all in one note document. I would have hundreds of notes in that one document. My other documents are more specific and hold a smaller number of notes each.

The number of note documents isn't the issue... it's how BIG those note documents are.

Within L5, act like you are going to print that note document. How many pages would it take?

I have 250 pages in that one document.

Thanks Graham,
I think your right about the environment. I seem to be using the notes like everyone else. I use Logos at home and work and have good internet connections at both. My PC seems to sync fine to the cloud but it takes days for those notes to sync to my ipad.

Ken, fwiw ... I have the very same issue. In fact, a strange twist is that my notes files load with no problem on my iPhone 5s; however, the iPad 2 can take days to sync, crashes, locks up, etc. I have closed the app and reopened it. I have deleted the app and reloaded it. I have been using Logos for over 15 years and even teach an accredited course on using it for Bible study and sermon preparation. Embarassing. Ugh...

What version(s) of iOS are running on your devices? Also, can you please send us a support info email from the help menu on your iPad 2?

Hello, Kevin. Thanks for asking.
iPhone 5s = carrier: T-Mobile; Modern Firmware: 1.03.01; iOS 7.0.4
iPad 2 = iOS 7.0.4
What I did yesterday was to delete the Logos, reinstall the Logos app, then turn the iPad off, and then turn it back on. It then displayed the synced notes.
I hope this helps.
Thanks for the interest.

Dennis,
Your first log indicates you were using the app anonymously and were not actually logged in. Your second log indicates you were in fact logged in. Notes will never sync if you are using the app without having logged in and I expect that's why the issue resolved itself.

Thanks, Kevin. I did not know the app was being used anonymously. Makes sense. Interesting observation -- the previous notes seemed to have been displaying tagged to the various texts. However, glad we got it cleared up and that all is back "in order" and normal in my Logos sphere. Thanks again for the interest and help. Grace & peace ....
