Libronix work on Windows 8.1
I did not realize how many things are missing from Logos 5 compared to Libronix, until I got a new computer, which came with Windows 8. It was then I learned the sad news when I called Logos for help to get Libronix going again. They told me there is nothing I could do because of the new OS, and after all Libronix was an old program.
Here are a few examples: the Bible Facts as compared to Libronix and Logos 4 maps, places, etc., the Maps are harder to find not with same variety, the puzzle Word Find for my purposes are useless (I did purchase a Word Search program, but it is more time consuming than Libronix was), Yearly Bible Readings I used to make into booklet form and handed out in the church (list form was easily copied and pasted into Publisher)... I now spend a lot of time using Google search for maps, definitions, pictures, etc., online Bible sites and of course other Bible programs to do what I used to do with Logos. Instead of getting rid of other Bible Programs I have either upgraded or purchased new ones.
Some will say you can still most of that on Logos 5, but it takes too long to figure out how to do something, which many of them cannot longer be done. Yes I know that there are programs to use to make Bible Reading Plans to use as I want, Map Programs, etc. However, I am not looking to spend hundreds of dollars to do what Logos used to do, easily.
So I am hoping that someone can give me some help in getting Libronix going again before the middle of December.

Libronix is tied to IE and does not play well with anything above IE8. Best OS for running Libronix 3 is Win XP. You need a virtual machine running XP on your new computer to get L3 working again. Windows 8 and L3 don't play together.

George, as has been suggested you could try installing an XP virtual machine under W8 and reload Libronix.
Having said that I find Logos 5 a much better program than Libronix. It is daunting to learn, but that has been the experience of all of us who went from Libronix to Logos 4 or 5. I will say that if you use Logos for Bible study, not just the occasional map look-up or making of a hand-out, you'll find Logos 5 has many more features than Libronix did. To get the most from it you'll need to buy the Minimal Crossgrade.
I know you'd like a quick fix, but it will take you awhile to learn how to use Logos 5 to its full potential. One of our MVP's, Mark Barnes, created a series of excellent video tutorials in Logos 4 which are still useful for Logos 5. When you have time, I'd encourage you to start viewing them.

I use Libronix in a virtual box (MS version). Happy am I. And ... most of my purchases from Logos have the Libronix version available.
But before going 'virtual' (a) wait for John to chime in regarding Libby on 8.1. He's a forum member; not Peter's partner.
And ... (b) are you 'sure' on L5? I use both and each has great features! Libby won't live forever, you know.

Mark I have Logos 5 for some time, but some of the features mentioned are gone. Some of these, after I could not find a solution, I called tech support and found there is no solution or work around for some of these.

You can export any Bible Reading plan you create in a number of formats. Publisher isn't one, but you can accomplish almost the same by exporting to MS Word, reformatting to landscape mode with two columns, then printing out a single copy, cutting them apart, and the reassembling the half sheets in the order needed to create a booklet. Not slick but doable and similar what I used to do all the time before I had electronic page layout programs like Publisher.
The new Image Search function in Logos 5 can help you find maps. You can create a maps collection to use for such searching. I think Biblical Places works pretty well, however.
I have no difficulty getting definitions, perhaps you can explain a bit more what approach you now take in Logos 5.

In some ways, this is certainly true. But for me, L5 is DOA as my daily workhorse. The way I use Notes is impossible on L5.
This can't be replicated in L5 in any way.

I am well aware that for a few people here Libronix is the only software they find acceptable. My own wife still uses Libronix the few times she accesses Logos. In her case the effort to learn the new system isn't worth what she gets out of it. She's happy with Libronix.
As I said, I find Logos 5 to be much better than Libronix. The way I use the software it has improved with each release. I do think that is the majority opinion of former Libronix users. We have given up a little to gain a lot. Seems you lose in updating, so you are staying put. That's fine. Apparently George T feels the same way. For many things there are work-arounds in L4 or L5. For some there are not.

David, my apologies. I was watching 3 TV programs; I don't know how those words got into my writing. Really. I'm so embarrassed. My Logosian career is ruined and I wasn't even texting.
Oh well.
Has anyone noticed that iOS Logos is looking more and more like Libby. Easy to use. Quick. Bible class winner. No trillion-byte downloads. No weeklong indexing. Plus government watchdogs wondering just how can Logos inflate the desktop version any more without adding warning labels.

L5 is a search engine...a snazzy one at that...but nothing more. Oh, it is where I keep my Library contents in nested folders, too. Nifty. [Y]
L3 is my cybernetic implant by which all of the information I have ever processed is made instantly available to me with a simple hover of my mouse. I can duplicate PowerPoint functionality in L3 using my Notes. For L5, that is a pitiful pipe dream. Let me restate this a different way--my NASB Bible is a permanent, on-the-fly, infinitely malleable PowerPoint presentation because of L3 Note functionality. L5...ain't.
Oh, and I ought not neglect to mention that I can see the underlying Hebrew or Greek with a simple mouse hover...no clicking required.

Kinda, sorta. In my experience, it only showed about 5-6 lines and then cut off...and getting to the rest was a comparative chore. And there was the annoyance of this whole window flashing (in a rather slow, turtle-ish sort of way) data every time you moused over something. To me, a pop-up is much less intrusive than having a whole fixed window constantly flashing new info as the cursor crosses the screen. I don't even like that in L3--I use the L3 info window sparingly and close it out as soon as I'm done.
In other words, the quality of the experience is significantly different in favor of L3, imo.

I'm not a fan of L5 notes. However, can you save me some effort by telling me what in your notes can't be replicated in L5?

I have L3 and L5 running on my Windows 8.1 machine. I simply did a clean install of both when I got my new computer. I then copied over my L3 notes and other items along with my L5 PB's. Everything has been working for me.0 -

I'm not a fan of L5 notes. However, can you save me some effort by telling me what in your notes can't be replicated in L5?
The pop-up that you see on the screen. L5 has a max pop-up size of 2.5 x 3 in. Compare the same note pop-ups from L3 and L5 below.
Also, in L3 I can have mouse hoverable pop-ups that are almost as large as my screen.

Hi Mark,
Word Find Puzzle in Libronix, allowed you to chose the passage, the number of words you wanted to find in that passage and copy it from Libronix easily to another program. I used Word most often for this and if the puzzle was not as I wanted, after pasting, I could rearranged and format them to fit my needs. I used them in Sunday School, Bible Training, etc.
Maps, could be found by passage, name... and there would be many choices (especially Logos 4) to choose from if you did not like what Logos 4 or Libronix chose for you. I know that I could spend fifteen or more minutes to find different maps, pictures, graph or, etc., but it is easier to Google it and find them in seconds to a half a minute or so.
Do I want to but spend $250+ in training CD's and manuals for each version that Logos produces, instead of books? NO! Do I want to infest my time to the Logos program instead of studying? NO! I bought some training manuals & CD's before and about the time I half way knew what I was doing they changed the program...
Remember, Libronix and how easy it was to download books from other sources, however it was a lot more work to publish one in Libronix. But you could delete any mistakes easily off of your hard drive, not so any more. I did try the Personal Books videos, which were useful, took a few hours of watching and practicing, but I was able to correct the one that I had done, before watching the videos, which had many errors. However, I still have three copies of the Book in Logos, two with errors and my finished book. The only one that show up in Personal Books interface, is the Finished one the other two do not, but they do show up in the Library and are on my hard drive. None of the videos revealed how to deal with this or to get rid of them.
Like other have said already in other parts of the forums, I have too much invested to switch now. I had forgotten the old saying "Don't put all your eggs in one basket". I have found other Bible Programs that afford easier, less time consuming, Graphics, Pictures and Maps, besides the old stand by, Google, and cheaper than training CD's. They come with manuals.

doc; I tried virtual machines years ago and found them to be very crashes and used up my limited resources (now that should not be a problem). What virtual machine do you use or recommend and which operating system would it be best to use in the VM? I believe I have a copy of ME, XP but not XP3.
